LaDainian Tomlinson scored four touchdowns today. He ran for touchdowns of 5, 1, 1, and 5 yards. He is the first player to do this since, well, LaDainian Tomlinson on November 6, 2005. This feat has now been accomplished 135 times in 134 games by 108 different players.
Sad that the only game where 2 players scored 4 TDs each rushing was from 2 guys from the same team (Holmes and Blaylock)
Yep, that is correct. They did that against the Falcons. The last non-RB to win an ABA was Joe Horn in the cell phone game against the Giants in December 2003. I could put this in the trivia section, but I'll try it here first. Some ABA-related questions- Who was the last white guy to score four or more touchdowns in an NFL game? Who was the last rookie to score four or more touchdowns in an NFL game? A Hall of Fame wide receiver accomplished the feat. In the game he caught touchdown passes from two different Hall of Fame quarterbacks. Name the receiver and the quarterbacks.
No idea on the 2 quarterbacks but the WR I'd guess Largent And LT helps my fantasy team BIG time this week
yeah id have to say Largent but the two QB thing threw me off. then i thought maybe Dwight Clark catching passes from Young and Montana. but Clark isnt in the HOF. dunno lol
A hint on the third one- it happened prior to Montana's career. In other words, it took place somewhere between 1920 and 1978. Not much of a hint, but it's enough for nobody to have to think about more recent players.
Well, I didn't post the answers yet. I will post them after tonight's Mets game, so if anyone wants to take some guesses, go ahead.
Mets game and alcohol made my forget about this thread last night. Let me give you some hints and I will post the answers in a few hours. 1. the white guy played for a division rival of the Jets 2. the most recent rookie ABA winner is still active 3. Invincible
A) I would guess Roger Carr, Colts - Bert Jones favorite target for a few years B) JUst a guess - Joey Galloway. Dude scored a lot of TDs his rookie year C)uhhhhhh, Marky Mark?
Not bad guesses. You stepped up to the plate and took a shot at it. Hopefully, some other folks will take a chance before I post the answers. A) more recent than Carr (also, for the record, Carr never scored 4 TDs in one game) B) more recent than Galloway C) one of the guys in question was mentioned in the Marky Mark movie
Marky Mark has been in a lot of movies. Isn't that just pathetic? After that one horribly ridiculous video, that guy should have been laughed out of existance.
I think he's a good actor. I'll be seeing "The Departed" tomorrow night now that the Mets have departed the postseason. Also, the 1985 Bears had a horribly ridiculous video, but us NFL fans haven't laughed them out of existence.
The answers: Don Beebe is the most recent white guy to score four touchdowns in one game. He accomplished the feat on September 8, 1991. The Bills beat the Steelers 52-34. Beebe caught touchdown passes of 34, 14, 11, and 4 yards from Jim Kelly. That night the sixth season of Married...With Children debuted. *** I'll accept two answers for the next one. Willis McGahee scored four touchdowns against Seattle on November 28, 2004. (He was drafted in 2003.) Clinton Portis was a true rookie when he scored four touchdowns against the Chiefs on December 15, 2002. He scored three rushing touchdowns and added a fourth score on a 66-yard connection with Brian Griese. *** On October 4, 1959 at Franklin Field, Tommy McDonald scored four touchdowns. The Eagles beat the Giants 49-21. The future Hall of Famer caught two touchdown passes from future Hall of Famer Norm Van Brocklin. Those plays covered 33 and 55 yards. His third score was an 81-yard punt return. His fourth touchdown was a 19-yard pass from future Hall of Famer Sonny Jurgensen. As for the Invincible hint, Vince Papale's favorite player coming up was Tommy McDonald. It was noted in the movie.
Yeah, but did you know that he came up with the idea for HBO's Entourage and is the Executive producer of the series? The character of Vince is based loosely on his early career. He was also very good in Boogie Nights, which was an excellent film, I thought. I heard Invincible was a good movie too. I'm no fan of his music, but he's done some good things afterwards.
