    I get what you're saying but I think he's a better player.

Just because Q isn't playing to his full potential because he is out of position doesn’t mean that he isn't a valuable contributor.

He'd probably be much more valuable in a 4-3 base - but it isn't like we're talking about Kyle Wilson here.

It won't be 100M, and we have time. If the Jets feel they shouldn't rush into the extension, then don't rush into it. Dez still ain't signed long-term, Justin Houston - how do you think those fanbases are feeling right now?

BTW ... 5 yrs 65M extension; he earns the majority of his cash the first 3 yrs of his contract. Averages out to 13 a season. We will have enough for Richardson's pay-day and we can talk a potential extension for Wilkerson (or let him part).

Too inconsistent from week to week throughout his career. Although he played better and more reliable for much of this past season. A good run stuffer and physical at the point of attack, but not a natural edge rusher. Solid rotational guy but nothing more.

he is in the 270's now…and mario williams played and will play at 290's with buff. and julius peppers is playing rush line backer at that weight in green bay

also vernon gholston was in the 260's a perfect size for a pass rusher

I've seen enough. He's exactly what they said prior to the draft --- inconsistent. Flashes of brilliance and then disappears. In my mock offseason 2 months ago, I said trade him for a 4th rounder. I stand by that.

he had 6.5 sacks last year..4.5 the year before playing on a cracked ankle and 5.5. his rookie year in a rotation role

like i said there are 2 edge rushers starting on every team..60 + starters in the nfl…and under 20 had 10+ sacks.

Solid player. Jets misued him just like they did with AA at CB. Put his hand in the dirt and let him roll. Get a real OLB to pass rush too.

I would say he's much more than a rotational player, he's definitely a quality NFL starter in this league. He doesn't set the world on fire but he stops the run at an efficient clip while generating a good push in his pass rushing game. While Rex seemed to have taught his guys to efficiently stop the run, he doesn't seem to be an expert on developing pass rushers on the edge. Hopefully Pepper Johnson will be able to develop some pass rush moves out of Coples outside of the bullrush he normally displays.

Coples has also been utilized poorly in the past. I can't get off the fact that the guys talents were wasted on jamming receivers on the edge for multiple plays this season. Disguised or not it completely takes him out of the play. As many have stated, let him put his hand in the dirt and get after the quarterback.

What I've noticed specifically about Coples from a two point stance is the fact that he takes a false step and rocks backwards before moving forward. That's costing him a good solid second off the edge. He gets a ton of quarterback hits but never quite gets there because of that false step. For anyone that's played football, in particular at inside linebacker, coaches drill the fact that false steps can't happen under any circumstance. It gives offensive lineman an extra second to react. Hopefully the Jets coaching staff sees what I'm seeing, albeit I'm not expert.

Coples is out of position at OLB. He should be at DE in all formations.

I don't think Coples was drafted to be Dwight Freeney. I think he was drafted to be a solid, productive, every down DL. And he is that.

It'd mean more coming from someone who didn't take a punch like Jane.

I'm torn on his future with the Jets. He's out of position, but even still he manages to get a lot of pressure on the QB. For whatever reason, compared to most other pass rushers, the proportion of pressures to sacks is low. He may still breakthrough with that 10+ sack season. Or he'll be what he was last year--a good complimentary pass rusher, solid in run support, and mismatched in coverage.

people need to stop looking at the stupid depth chart that says olb

I think that's a very high percentage to place on what stance he's been in the majority of the time. We have no way to quantify it either way, but the eye test says there's no way he was rushing from the edge out of a 3 point stance that much.
