    No 2nd rounder. I was thinking a 5th or a 6th.

Some see the Eagles doing a deal with Washington. I don't see that happening. Washington doing a deal with their division rival?

I keep going back and forth on this topic, but the reality of it is the Jets are really sitting pretty at 6. They hold most all the cards. When the bell rings they WILL have the option to draft a stud potential pro bowler for years to come in a position of absolute need for them. Depending on how the chips fall it could be a QB, OLB or WR. Either of these positions would instantly upgrade the quality of the D or the O for years to come.

Now, a trade could provide them with much needed picks, fill additional holes, but the drop off in value is not insignificant. If we are lucky we can get a solid contributor, but not necessarily the difference maker we are looking for. Add the fact that this new regime, I would expect, should be pretty focused on making the first draft a low risk, significant success and the probability of trading the pick might be reduced. Of course all bets are off if in their combined wisdom they don't see the value for either MM or Winston, but my gut tells me if either is available the decision is automatic. Get them. If they are not available, the decision is even more automatic.

I think the big surprise could be the Bucs at 1. They might keep the pick and draft the USC D-lineman. The most surprised of all could be Jameis who assumes he'll be the Bucs pick at 1. I heard him interviewed recently and he was tossing out Tampa Bay Bucs lines.

If the Bucs pass on one of these QBs they deserve to be a cellar dweller for all time.

They probably won't although imo Glennon is ok. Plus they let McCown go so something Qb wise is going on. But hard to a pass on a potential Sapp like player.

Those people are smoking crack. Why trade w/ Washington? They won't take Mariota. Jets are the next pick up. That would suck for Washington to miss out on one of those elite pass-rushing prospects, WHILE letting the Eagles acquire Mariota.

You don't pass on a potential franchise QB for a potential franchise DT. That's crazy talk.

Besides, Glennon is an uncoordinated JAG. Better than Geno but that's not saying much.

TB has to take one of the QBs.

You overrate the QB position. I'd take Williams if I'm TB.

Newton is still mega talented and can carry a team on his back to big wins. While he falls short of the Luck, Manning, Brady, Brees plateau, I'd be ecstatic if the Jets had a weapon like Newton at the QB slot.

3rd round pick for Foles (an early 3rd). His most recent body of work had him on the verge of losing his job to Mark Sanchez don't forget.

Overrate the QB position? Are you kidding? It's THE most important position on a team. Period. You can't overrate the importance of the position. A great QB can carry a lousy team a long way, but you have a great team and if you have lousy QB play, then you'll go nowhere fast.

I hope you're right about the Bucs taking Williams, however. I truly hope they're that stupid. That would insure that the Jets would get one of Mariota or Winston.

While that's possible, and I certainly don't know Mariota, based on everything I've read, seen from, and heard about him, I just can't see his commitment not being there if he didn't get his way. In NYC (well, OK NJ) he'd be playing on the premier stage and would have the chance to be a savior for the Jets franchise, while the same isn't true in Philly. Also, even though Kelly is there, the Philly fans are the worst in the NFL and in any sport. They're a bunch of hooligans. They make Jets fans look like card-carrying Mensa members and saints.

Possibly, but not definitely. Let's say we make the trade with Philly, and playing in basically the same system he did in college, Mariota becomes an instant star and the Iggles make the playoffs. The Iggles' 1st round pick would then likely be in the mid-to-low 20s. The odds of getting that great QB prospect are a lot lower there than they are at #6.

No, he's not a surefire star, but aside from Teddy Bridgewater last year, he's the best QB prospect the Jets have been likely to have a realistic shot at taking in a long, long time.
