Now that the Bills got McCoy, there is no way they are getting Revis right? Because they were one of the teams interested but with McCoys contract there in cap trouble right?

News of the trade comes on the same day the Eagles released linebacker Trent Cole and defensive back Cary Williams. By removing those three players from the roster, Philadelphia has shedded $31.75 million against the salary cap. Conversely, Alonso is on his rookie deal -- a contract that pays him $4.3 million over four years that runs through 2016.

The other day I read that the jets and eagles were looking like the front runners for maxwell. They could possibly be opening up cap space for a bidding war

He traded away Jackson last year and Maclin stepped in and filled that void.

I think there is a stronger case to be made that trading for RB's that have some mileage on them is a bad idea then there is for it being a good one.

I like this trade for the Eagles.

Are you kidding? This trade is a steal for the Eagles. Alonso is 24 on a rookie contract. He played lights out before a freak injury.

McCoy is 26, at a position where at 30 you're done making 10 million a year.

Why not go after Murray and keep your young linebacker? They have room under the cap.

This is a shit move. And it's got Rex's fingerprints on it.

It's going to be fun watching our friends up North implode.

Wait McCoy is only 26???!!!!!! I don't like his cap number but that is still young even for a running back.

Let's all panic about the Bills now. They just lost a beast of a middle linebacker for a RB that is flashy yes, but needs a solid offensive line to produce..good luck if he gets that in buffalo...oh and look out for the bills qb ! whoever that may end up being! McCoy is going to love seeing 9 in the box lol...oh and I'm sure he will love living in buffalo....Eagles were the winners in this trade hands down

No, that's prime territory for a running back. 27 is prime also. 28 is a risk to start going over the hill and 29 is the year most guys go over the hill.

But he was a rookie at 21. He has 6 seasons under his belt including the last two with over 300 carries. His age is misleading (Also, he'll be 27 this summer)

First, does this mean that it's finally dawned on Rex that you might need a few explosive players on offense to win? Second, will
Mrs. Ryan be sporting a Lesean McCoy jersey in a new Rex tattoo?

not dumb as fuck at all....McCoy wasn't fitting, and they will look more than likely to replace McCoy with Murray or Peterson. They are clearing all this space for a reason. It's fair to say wait until after the draft to call the Eagles dumb as fuck.

You don't build championships by trading your best players. You only open more holes. You also cannot spend your way to a championship. Losing DeSean Jackson, Shady McCoy and soon Jeremy Maclin hurts the team. McCoy was the most feared player on the Eagles and defenses had to account for him anytime he was on the field. Darren Sproles does not have the same impact. With that focus gone, defensive coaches can move their focus around. They already adjusted to Chip's offense last season. Who's going to be the QB? What weapons will he have? Look how Sanchez fared after the Jets failed to re stock the offense.

Kiko Alonso is a nice player, but coming off an injury. He is not in the same league as McCoy.

The Eagles are assuredly going to resign Maclin now. They opened up tons of cap room. They will give him $10 mil and it won't even be an issue for them.

defenses already adjusted to Chip Kelly's offense? That's news to me considering they were 3rd in points per game and 5th in yardage despite having to play a backup QB for half the year.

I understand he's only been in the NFL 2 years but if you look at his system dating back to Oregon, Kelly's offense always runs the ball very well, regardless of who's carrying it. And Sproles averaged almost 6 yards a carry last season in it. And the year before Bryce Brown did a nice job in it as well. They will probably draft a RB in this deep RB draft to split the load with Sproles and they will be more than fine without McCoy & his large contract.

Alonso is coming off an injury so there's concern there but he's the type of LB that will become commonplace in this league. The smaller, quicker, coverage LB. The dinosaurs like Brandon Spikes, David Harris to a degree, etc. will become obsolete. Alonso could make a big impact on that D.

It's possible the trade is win/win for both teams depending on perspective. Buffalo is desperate to make the playoffs and completely geared up for the short term. They might be able to ride McCoy like a thoroughbred and get there, but this was undoubtedly a brilliant, brilliant trade for Philly, IMO, if for the only reason that they were able to get out of McCoy's contract! adding a very promising young defensive talent like Alonzo on his rookie contract makes it even better.

A steal? Alonso was often hurt in college and now he missed an entire season due to a knee injury. It's a huge gamble and I'd call it far from a steal. The Bills didn't need Alonso last year and they already had a pretty good defense. I like it from the Bills standpoint. Is there a risk with Shady? Of course he's a RB with a lot of mileage but so was Thomas Jones and that worked out pretty good for Rex. I'm not saying Rex won't fuck the Bills up but I don't think this is all that bad of a move from them. They added a really good RB to go along with the really good WR and really good defense they have.
