After the Bills game where Geno threw the 3 picks early I think the Jets were in panic mode on that side of the ball. They'd waited too long to make the switch to Vick and the season was basically toast and a lot of poor decisions had been made on that side of the ball to that point. They never got their feet on the ground after the Packers tried to hand them the game in Green Bay and they handed it right back. That should have been a glaring moment for the franchise and Geno and they just kind of slid from there until the missed meeting in SD, which still didn't get Geno benched, and the blowout that followed and then by the Bills game it was just in ruins.

Rex was pissed off after the opener, telling the media that he thought the Jets had left points on the board and the game should have been a blowout. Then the Packers game went south and really Geno should have been sat down at that point and Vick given the reins for awhile.

I think Rex did about as bad a job of coaching an NFL team as you can do last season. The fact that the Jets showed up to play the Patriots and the Fins and nobody else all year tells you that Rex just didn't have his head or his heart in the season.

Running backs have short lives. It could be that Chris not being overused it could actually help his career. He is no longer an every down runner but he could be a role player. I could see him being very good with a team like New England if he learns how to keep his mouth shut.

I don't blame Rex or Idzik on Chris. I blame Marty and Chris.

The fact is there's nobody who knows for sure if he was lied to but the people in the room. Either way, he knew the situation coming here with Ivory already being established. If he thought he was going to come in and take over all the carries he was naive no matter what promises were made. That being said, Johnson was horribly misused with the constant runs up the middle. His value as always been making people miss in space, catching dump offs and screen passes and busting big plays. The Jets hardly every attempted any screen passes to him, and MM bears a large portion of the blame for the failure of CJ.

While I am sure Idzik messed up probably telling guys like Vick and CJ that they had a good chance of starting, neither showed anything given the opportunity. CJ looked washed up, but played decently late down the stretch (bad conditioning maybe?) and Vick was totally unprepared when Geno got benched. They will probably get the league minimum salary/not be in the NFL next year and good riddance.

that Packers game... makes me question wether or not HIDING a QB is worth it at all. when we let Geno be a QB its like…he looked like one. and he'd still be throwing picks, but the Offense looks more coherent as a whole.

It says something about him that the powers that were saw it fit to limit Geno, but I cant help but feel like doing so was counter intuitive overall seeing some somewhat positive results when he wasn't hidden.

Given both Sanchez's and Geno's regression with the Jets, you could tell Rex & Co. could not develop Quarterbacks. I agree that Geno looked BETTER when he wasn't restricted because the guys gonna have his turnovers whether they limit him or not.

You're right about the lack of screens--in the first game of the season he made a 20 or so yard gain by screen in a critical situation. I recall another one like 7 weeks later that didn't get the first down, and maybe 1 that was incomplete. You can't blame CJ for this.

It wasn't Rex's fault because those two Qbs didn't develop. In both cases there were very adequate experienced coaches in the Qb Room. My problem with Rex wasn't the coaching of Mark and Geno. They are both just not good players. And they got plenty of chances to improve. And that's where the problem lies. Too many chances and no accountability esp with Sanchez who should have been benched in late 2011.

I hate idzik and honestly feel he can arguably go down as one of the worst gm in the history of the nfl... So with tht said CJ is insane. He's on downside of his career and is in jeopardy of not playing again. He has to kiss rex Ryan's ass as rex unlike idzik is still in the nfl. For all the stupid, moronic brains dead things idzik did, making CJ usless wasn't one of them. He should thank idzik for the 4 million dollars thAt idiot gave him.

I'm no Idzik fan but I don't get why he'd be dictating playing time not go to his own FA signing. That's a pretty bad signing if you give a guy millions and don't really want him to play lol
