There were rumors that the Patriots were considering giving Revis the $20 million. But recent quotes from Kraft's son basically say something to the effect that they are going to try to work things out. Which means pay cut. Not sure if Kraft will like dealing with the Revis team. Even when he signs a deal he later complains about it and holds out. Randy Moss tried pulling that crap and they got rid of him. It's not the Patriot Way.
I don't want to pay him 16 mil a year, but if he comes for 12 and we can get Cro for 2 years 4 mil, I am with it. Would rather two guys for 16 than only one guy.
If Rex has the pull to get the Bills to put up the $$$, that would be Revis fallback choice if the Pats aren't willing to give him what he wants. The Pats could always keep him on the 2nd year of the contract, but with having to pay McCourty and others it seems unlikely.
i think he'll end up right back on the Pats (unfortunately).. by including that seemingly ludicrous second year option, they did two things: 1) gave themselves first shot at signing a new deal before he can speak to any other team 2) put themselves in a 5M dead money situation if they release him. considering that amount of dead money, i think they'll be more open to offering 14-15M per on a shorter term deal. that's enough to get it done. If he leaves, i tend to think it will be for a change in scenery or opportunity to play for a coach of his choice on a longer deal. that's just a huge gamble on his part tho, as he might not get offered as much to go to a desired location.

Not really. Only Deion is on his level. Blount played the position much more physically and would never succeed in today's game. I'd put Revis as the best cover corner of all time. Sanders was great, but relied on his speed more than pure coverage skills. It's really a shame he went to NE and that Idzik was a fucking idiot in not bringing him back.
I always thought Woodson was very overrated as a corner but a great safety. He used to get torched by the top WRs. he's a highlight reel guy as he was great w/ the ball in his hands but in my lifetime I would say Haynes, Hayes, Revis and Deion are the best I have seen.
I was going by today's rules ... Rod is the next man up if today's rules apply, I thought Rod did some things better then Deion and even to an extent Revis (in regards to making plays on the ball). He never took away 1 side of the field though. If today's rules don't apply then yeah you have to put Haynes and Hayes up there also. Again that's just my opinion on it.
I disagree about Woodson, maybe I am blinded by when Michael Irvin humiliated him in 1994 but I saw him get crushed by too many big time WRs. Revis takes the top guys and shuts them down in an era w/ tougher rules for DBs.
Revis hands down the best technique I've ever seen for a CB. Revis had his fair share of troubles with smaller faster receivers like D-Jax and Ted Ginn Jr. I give Woodson plenty of credit though, very versatile DB.

I love Revis but I think Deion was at a higher level. Revis might have the advantage in strictly covering his man, but that's a slight advantage and Deion was a much bigger playmaker than Revis. Not only would he shut down his side of the field, he also was dangerous because he'd create turnovers and was deadly with the ball in his hands. I understand he's a safety but a modern player of similar playmaking ability in the secondary was Ed Reed in his prime. Deion had Revis' coverage skills & Ed Reed's playmaking skills combined
Wasn't he "flashy good" fun to watch? The pre-Deion. Word had it that he wasn't adverse to 'leading-up' 'neath the forearm pads: the pre-Pats. ;-)
Deion was definitely the better playmaker, he was a threat to score any time he touched the ball but I think Revis was a better alla round corner- better cover corner and obviously better in the run game.
