Murray-Ivory-Spiller / Vereen sounds better to me, although it's unrealistic to have that much $$ invested in the RB position. Spiller is coming off 2 down years. He should come at a discount relative to his talent.
Spiller would be fine addition Moreno would be fine addition Not too high on Vereen Murray has a shot at the Hall still. #29 changes the dynamic of the offense
Murray is a beast, but the guy does fumble, and he ran behind the best offensive line in the league. Depending on the price, I would take him though - he's got an amazing stiff arm.
Imagine if you lined him up between the guard and the tackle and left him as eligible. The damage that would ensue...
The "backfield" is a challenging concept for you. It's the place behind, or directly adjacent to the quarterback
This offense needs player that give D-coordinators fits. The only player we have close to that is Harvin, you always need to know where he is when he's on the field. Murray is one of those guys. I don't care what you say about the game is changing, a dynamic player is a dynamic player. You pair Murray up with Ivory in the backfield and you have a beast of a tandem . Now go out and sign\draft the best offensive linemen available and get me another beast of a TE and all of a sudden our weakness goes to a strength very quickly no matter who is behind center.
A big part of what made Curtis Martin great and a HOF'r who he is as a person. I don't like the comparison unless there is something to that side of him as well.
1:40 against Washington - that is Martin moves and speed The whole video reminds me of Curtis; patient runner, elite vision, speed, quickness, fights for the extra yard. Murray is straight talent.
His carries were lower in previous years because of injury history, which is also a concern when deciding to pay big money to a back but yeah you are right, last season was the only time he approached 400 carries
I am not saying to sign him, I am against it BUT the knock on Curtis early on was he couldn't stay healthy and he became an ironman for us.
I would pass on Murray. There's plenty of young RB's in this draft and we could possibly land CJ Spiller which is a bigger home run hitter than Murray. Most Cowboys fans knock on Murray is that he doesn't finish his big runs for a score, we can get that in Spiller. In my honest opinion i think there's a big grip of RB's that could have did the same as Demarco or better behind that beasty o-line. Plus Ivory should be our main guy carrying the rock he's just so angry when he runs you can't replace that (one of the best in YAC two years straight). Just build our o-line and we'll be fine at this position.
Ivory didn't get nearly enough carries last season. Only 1 game over 20, that's a crime. MM did a horrid job of managing the RB position as well as managing Geno Smith. Throwing Geno Smith more than 30x is also a crime (MM should be in jail). All that said...Murray is way better than Ivory.
I think the Naysayers are crazy. This guy better at least get a "visit". While the RB position is completely undervalued by the league it's a huge opportunity to pick up a stud and potential Hall of Famer at a bargain price. We all think Ivory is good talent at the position, but Murray is great talent. 2014 Ivory 198carries 18receptions _1game over 20 carries__ AKA split carry back Murray 392carries 57receptions __13games over 20 carries__ AKA feature back
Don't forget his 57 receptions this past season as well as his ability to pass-protect. I would def take Murray. If we can get another starting RT and a G, Murray would have some good seasons here w/ the Jets. That said, I am not giving him another season with 300+ carries.
There is no way to call him a future hall of famer, no doubt. He had one fantastic year behind the best o-line in the league. He needs to have another 5-7 solid years to be a hall of fame possibility.
