Based on what's on the roster right now it's really hard to argue the ranking. 4th from the bottom in power rankings 6th draft pick. No secondary to speak of, 1 LB, Great Dline IF they bring Snacks back.
Huge hole or question mark at just about every Offensive position other than Center, 1 WR and 1 RB.
Unsettled Guard posistion, promising but yet to develop TE (only going in to his 2nd season), an average Slot receiver and ?. Weak right tackle, declining left tackle. and then there's the QB situation.
    Zero roster depth overall.

But, these rankings only reflect where the team is post season and it's really hard to argue this at this time. What will matter more is how the team appears after the draft and free agency.

I don't get the Rex Ryan debates. Whether you like him or not the team needed to go in a new direction personnel department wise. The only way that was gonna happen was with a new coach. The debates over Rex are pointless.

There's no way I would put the Redskins or Jaguars over us like in the article. Though that would put us at #27 which isn't a great place to be either. We kind of have to win first before we get any respect and I don't really blame the writers for doubting us.

Exactly. Almost no need to discuss crap like this. No trades made, no draft yet, no pick up of free agents, released players signed by other teams......etc, etc.

How do you waste time talking about power rankings at this juncture?

Arguing about whether we are 27th or 29th is like arguing whether Geno Smith is better than David Carr or not.

Just a complete waste of time.

The 5 guys you mentioned were actually developed by very reputable DL coach Karl Dunbar. He was the only coach on Rex' staff worth a damn.

Coach Dunbar is no doubt a legendary DL coach but I doubt the "Sons" would've been so pissed he was fired if he didn't help their careers in a significant way.
Rex was a pretty damn good DL coach himself before he climbed the ranks from DC to Head Coach.

This is stupid, just like my friends arguing with me telling me were not going to be good anytime soon.. we are a brand new team, new staff and are going to be drastically different by the time the off-season is over. I mean we'll be like 1000x better just because we have to use a lot of our cap space this time around if I'm not mistaken..

Great post. It's no longer really a question as to whether Rex is a good coach or not. He's about a middle of the pack NFL head coach that caught lightning in a bottle in the AFC championship game years. He is what he is. He's very stubborn in his ways he usually coaches a good defense that keeps most games close. He has his faults that won't change; he refuses to learn anything related to offense, he continually defers to over the hill veterans due to player loyalty and his teams are absolutely horrible after bye weeks. We should all be lucky we likely saw the best of Rex and it's ashame that we'll have to play against his tough defenses twice a year (hopefully we catch them after a bye week).

That being said it was time for a change with this team. The sideline chaos every week like in the Green Bay game, the loads of penalties and the terrible challenges had wore out their welcome. it created a culture with no accountability for the players because Rex would say something outrageous to bail them out and commend horrible Clyde Gates like players regardless of how many drops or bad plays they had. The hope is that a newfound accountability will motivate players like Mo Wilk to play hard on every down because a coach will get on them. And bench Antonio Allen's when they can't cover a lick.

Love'd your post except for the Antonio Allen shot at the end. Allen is a decent TE cover. He does a decent job particularly vs Gronkowski twice a year.

Yes but he was thrown out there to cover top wide receivers including Alshon Jeffery under Rex. I think he'll be put into better situations against tightends with Bowles.

No reason they should humor us. The Jets aren't exactly substance over headlines. BTW. What do people have against defensive coaches. I mean you're going to have to pick a head coach with one of the specialities. Unless you hire a college head coach. I mean do offensive coordinators have more success as head coaches? IDK. You hire guys like Rex did at OC and that might be right.
