Cowher didn't have prior HC experience when he landed the Steelers job. Did the Bucs make a mistake when they hired Dungy? Did the Raiders make a mistake when they hired Gruden? Did the Browns make a mistake when they hired Belichick? Did the Jets make a mistake when they hired Carroll?
Has to be a good coach if Parcells has personally brought him to his last 3 jobs with him. Here in 2000. Cowboys 2005-2007 and Miami 2008-2011. He's a Parcells guy and that's probably the best coaching tree to come from. Add that to his last two years in Arizona, we made the right hire.
Everyone should just give the guy a chance. No one knows if he'll be a good HC or a bad HC because he's never been one. He could suck a big dick or be the next Vince Lombardi or anything in between. Anyone pretending like they know he'll be good or bad is full of shit.
HC's should be training like Spartans trained their young. So if the guy isn't out there by the time he's 5, he's shit.
He is also failing to understand that the Jets have put a new regime in place, not just a HC, they used Wolf and Casserly to help Woodrow find a group of men that are single minded in their philosophy, building a team, running a team, FA acquisitions, it's not just about Bowles.
Don't even sweat the "why" for now. Just state who you think would have been good hires. You've been asked several times in this thread and you don't answer.
If it was just down to personality, I'd have the job. Because everyone knows I'm one charming motherfucking pig.
This thread is Staten Island. (garbage - sorry SI). GoldenShowers, please jump in the hudson tonight or in front of a moving freight train or one after the other. Just stop posting and stealing my air.
When Rex was the DC in Baltimore his Defense was stacked. Bowles made a bunch of average players into a top defense. Not taking anything away from Rex as a coach or the cardinals defense. They had so many injuries and Bowles kept everything in line and they battled through adversity. Bowles Is a leader that has playing experience in the NFL. Bowles has a lot more connections to in the NFL than what Rex did. Rex brought a couple players from Baltimore with him Bowles has connections around the league with coaches and players.
To say he is not qualified is asinine, you could make a long list of coaches who got hired as HC with less experience than he had. He has been in the NFL well over 20 years as a player and a coach. The fact that he was promoted up as an interim replacement for a coach/coordinator that was let go speaks volumes that he was the one on the staff chosen to take over. The fucking Niners an organization with a whole lot more history, superbowls and recent success hired Jim Tomsula with all of 7 years in the NFL. Jim Tomsula As coach: England Monarchs (1998) Defensive line coach Scottish Claymores (1999–2003) Defensive line coach Berlin Thunder (2004–2005) Defensive coordinator Rhein Fire (2006) Head coach San Francisco 49ers (2010) Interim head coach San Francisco 49ers (2007–2014) Defensive line coach Todd Bowles As player: Washington Redskins (1986–1990) San Francisco 49ers (1991) Washington Redskins (1992–1993) As coach: New York Jets (2000) (Secondary) Cleveland Browns (2001–2004) (Secondary–nickel package) (2001–2003) (Secondary) (2004) Dallas Cowboys (2005–2007) (Secondary) Miami Dolphins (2008–2011) (Assistant head coach/Secondary) (2008–2011) (Interim head coach/Secondary) (2011) Philadelphia Eagles (2012) (Interim defensive coordinator/Secondary) Arizona Cardinals (2013–2014) (Defensive coordinator)
Something to keep in mind that I've mentioned in other threads: The year before being hired as HC of Green Bay, Mike McCarthy was the OC on a 49ers team that ranked dead last in offense.
Yeah, well, that's just, like, your opinion, man. The OP had a better plan. He's going to reveal it, like, soon, man. _
Qualifications -Strong minded -Tough -Former Player -Worked under great coaches -Brings attacking defense -Elevates players -Disciplines his guys -Assembling a good staff so far -Even keeled, seems to never be too high or too low which means our team will show up every week instead of getting up for the Pats and coming out flat for the Bills
