I wanted this to be separate from the other GM thread. It seems Mike Maccagnan is the leading candidate and likely new GM for us, so I wanted to post this article to get an inside look at him.

He has strong ties to Doug Marrone and Gary Kubiak.I want nothing to do with either of them.I rather go with one of the unproven guys in Quinn,Bowles or Reich

Strong ties doesn't mean he wants to work with them.

I disagree with you on Marrone and Kubiak but irregardless it's questionable to me when the media reports suggest he has strong ties to Marrone. Signing a player once a zillion years ago = strong ties???

He'll be the Jets GM, there's no power with the title. :) Our coach will be here first anyway.

People trying to save $$ with early bird specials. It's been a rough year in Jets land and Woody's been takin a hit with PSL sales. Makes sense that he's takin Maccagnan out early

On the face it there doesn't appear any reason to NOT like Maccagnan. I like that he's got the background that he does. An emphasis on scouting is a good place to start with.

I like what I've read about this guy, sounds like a good hire if it comes to fruition.

As long as this guy has a trusted cap guy to assist him, then he should def be the hire.

Well, as 101 pointed out, he could get a cap guy to help with that area. I like the focus on drafting and scouting. It's what I didn't like about Idzik, that he did not have that kind of personnel background.

Ever have a co-worker that you KNOW bullshitted their resume? That reminds me of Idzik. His resume shows scouting experience but clearly he showed 0 ability to scout and find good players.

Yeah, you could have had Idzik's "success" if you wore a blindfold and put names up on a dartboard.

That statement can't even be substantiated for years to come. I know it's popular to blame Idzik for 2014, but it's downright idiotic to evaluate an NFL GM after one year. This is especially true for one with little organizational decision - making power who's coaching staff and scouting department were forced on him.

In truth, none of us have any clue what type of GM John Idzik is because he's never actually been one regardless of title.

Isn't it at least a bit concening that this guy has been in professional football for 25 years now and has only made it to Director of College Scouting? Just saying....
