Reports coming out saying Quinn does not want to work with Kirchner(the candidate from seattle) and wants to work with someone else who has more experience, more scouting prowess, basically a more sought after candidate. Now with that being said, it does strike me as interesting, and not coincidental that we recently have reached out to Chris Ballard and Ryan Pace. Both of these guys have high ranking positions with their respective teams and have been rated high on all possible gm candidate lists. I think there is probably a lot of validity to the idea that they are searching for a gm candidate that that Quinn would be happy with. Most people say that this is a bad idea and to go after your gm first and I agree, but I am slightly more okay with it because Quinn is the guy that I have wanted at HC from the beginning of the search. Anyone else think this might be the case, or more just coincidence?
Ok I just read it. Seems like there were circumstances and he got fired at Syracuse maybe by Marrone and there was some kind of incident. And the guy, a former.Jets assistant hasn't worked as a coach since.
I'm not being a dick, he said his piece. ..115 times in 3 days. We get it, he thinks Marrone is a great coach, he didn't want him to leave buffalo, but he sucks and doesn't want us to be stuck with him.
You might justifiably call him a quitter (I suppose) if he did not negotiate this clause into the contract he signed two years ago. Is this a surprise to Bills management? If so, they are fools.
HAHAHA this made me laugh. I could totally envision this happening. I am glad he has football minds with him to point this out. We would be screwed if Woody lead this search.
I can't understand why you're be so much against him. There are many people of substance like Parcells and Curtis Martin who say he's a good coach. One guy Mehta drags out of the woodwork who hates him is a an ex-coach he probably fired. His record as a head coach isn't bad. Only 4 years but he was having initial success rebuilding 2 teams. Even if not your first choice why the opposition.
I gotta admit that article really left a sour taste in my mouth. In it's absence, I was actually impressed by the turnaround Marrone was orchestrating in Buffalo. The thing that worries me most about the negative rumors is his purported offensive conservatism. We do not need another one of those.
You know I can't ever remember fans complaining so much about not going for it on 4th down. Walt Michaels who was generally liked by fans and Jets players never went for it on 4th down even if inside the other team's 35,
Most good coaches play it safe on 4th down 9 out of 10 times. But that other one time...we as fans need that. And really, if that is the worst criticism one can level at Marrone, he did well enough in Buffalo to deserve another job.
His teams were going up not down. At both Cuse and the Bills. Two bad programs improved with him as head coach. He'll probably get a job. If not there's always NCAAF.
Marrone would be a good choice. Mehta hates him because he knows he's going to be hard to cover on the Jets. Mehta would have been leading the charge against Belichik in the Boston media in 2000.
Now today in Newsday (Long Island's newspaper) an article http://www.newsday.com/sports/footb...h-john-anselmo-defends-doug-marrone-1.9783643 quoting long time Marrone friend and former Nassau Community College coach (a big time JC program) John Anselmo who has coached with Marrone since 1995 inc. with Syracuse and the Bills. He contacted Newsday to dispute the negative remarks coming about Marrone esp those by former Syracuse coach, Bob Casullo. Anselmo says that Marrone was the exact opposite and that it's all sour grapes with Casullo because Marrone fired him after a game because of his abusive behavior on the field to two players. So what do you believe and why is Anselmo getting involved with this. There's a lot of spin to go through. On the surface it looks like Marrone and friends are trying to respond to this criticism. And fight back. I personally don't like using the press to set an agenda. We saw it for six years with Rex. And does anyone really listen to Mehta except us.
The worst thing that could happen to the metro area media right now is for an actual culture change to occur around the Jets. Marrone and the right GM could do that. So could several other candidates at both positions. Maccagnan has the rep of being quiet and reserved. Marrone is seen as hard to deal with from a media perspective. The combination of those qualities would really suck to cover. If the GM and HC really swept out the stables and got rid of long-time employees on the football side of the house the anonymous sources would probably dry up and certainly be less credible.
Quiet and reserved. That sounds familiar. Didn't work last time. If the guy pisses off the old guard in the org we could have a repeat of the past two years. Please fire them!
I'm guessing Woody and Neil Glat are getting really tired of all the leaking. I'm also thinking they're going to be on board with a culture change at this point because the Jets need to sell tickets and letting the media run a constant pre-emptive anti-Jets campaign can't be helping much in that regard.
