it's Rex by a wide margin. Herm is 2nd. Mangini would make a good front office guy. Power hungry, the my way or no way attitude, and an eye for evaluating talent. but he's no coach.
If any FG miss in the history of the nfl is on a coach those two absolutely were. Herm didn't even try to get another yard once he felt we were in good enough position. When you sit on the ball instead of trying to get closer and the kicker misses then that's on the coach for not putting his player in the best possible situation. He settled for what he thought was good enough and it wasn't.
Instead of just looking at the good times, think about their entire body of work. Sure the other guys didn't get us two AFC Championship game appearances but none of them were in charge during this horrible season either. Rex got off to a great start but when you look at all of the games his team lost, all of the penalties, and all of the turnovers, maybe Rex is just another guy.
Never happen. Mangini and Herm were run out of town with similar overall records. Rex is the most beloved mediocre coach in history. It really is quite nauseating the fucking Rex love fest around here.
Herm had Pennington in his prime, and had success. 2 playoff wins (should have been 3). i think he did a decent job here. Mangini had Pennington and Favre, as well as 2 years in Cleveland, and accomplished little in either place, while pissing a lot of people off in the process. 1 playoff appearance, 0 wins at both stops. He's not a good coach, or even coordinator in my opinion. He's best suited for a FO position, if anything at all. Rex had Sanchez and still won 4 playoff games with us. Not saying he's without flaws, but he's the best coach since Parcells.
Putting Belichick here is like putting Mike Piazza on a "who's the best Marlins catcher in history" poll. Just a shame though because since Parcells , Herm was better than Groh, Mangini was better than Herm, Rex was better than Mangini. Sucks we wont be hiring another upgrade this offseason in all likelyhood.
Seriously, you believe Mangini was "better than Herm"? Do they go by records in your world of coach rankings?
Rex followed by Mangini. Groh then Herm. Herm was fucking awful. He ran a very talented team into the soil.
Turnovers were limited because Chad Pennington protected the football and Curtis Martin fumbled the ball like 6 times his entire career.
I almost excluded him but I left him in on the chance that he would get votes on the basis that someone hated all of the other options. I was not expecting anyone to vote for mumbles but I was curious to see if they would.
Not true. The only accurate assessment of that position would compare only their first year records against one another. Pete Carroll went 10-6 his first season taking over for Parcells. Obviously a step back from a Super Bowl but a winning record and better season than Grohls only season with the Jets.
Not as easily Rex when u consider that the afc championship game years were with players mangini developed.
