I'm hoping Woody misspoke on this. The alternative is frightening beyond belief. Woody can't be THAT thickheaded to think he can choose a HC before a GM is hired or even afterwards. Woody needs to sign the checks and stay in his lane.. For the love of God, Woody, let your new GM choose his own HC. Don't fck this up AGAIN.
@Br4dw4y5ux has documented several times on here that this is not how it works in all organizations. There are a handful of very successful organizations where the HC and GM both report to the owner.
As someone mentioned before, I think the only way we hire a new HC before a GM is if it is some big name superstar, of Jon Gruden / Harbaugh caliber (obviously neither of those 2 are coming, but still...). In the absence of a huge name coming to coach, I'm confident the GM will be chosen first.
But is the owner we have competent enough to be the head of this management structure? GM and Coach need to be on the same page. I think all of us can agree to that; whether or not the GM needs to hire the coach for that to happen is up for debate, I guess.
It works several ways in successful organizations. You can have the GM and HC reporting separately to the ownership, with the owners making the hire/fire decisions. That would be the Steelers and Giants model. You can have the HC having ultimate authority with a GM caddying for him. That would be the Patriots and Seahawks model. You can have a strict hierarchy with HC reporting to GM. That would be the Packers and Ravens. There are a lot of different ways to go and anybody who says one size fits all isn't looking at the whole picture.
He's not going to say something negative about a player who is currently on the team. In all likelihood Geno will be on this team next year. It makes sense for Woody to say encouraging things about him.
I can't say that I've ever met dumber fans. You haven't won anything for so long you don't know what it takes. You've fallen in love with personalities and don't care about winning. Bringing in Casserly and Wolf means he knows he needs expert help to get this team managed and coached well. Both of these guys are smarter than anyone that's been associated with the Jets in DECADES! Your job now is to shut up and watch, you'll learn something.
youre forgetting the clock management part.....just like Rex hahahha you run the ball, you kick a FG with 5 seconds left and then you get the ball to start eh second half and guess what? you run run run that first drive also....its really a no-brainer...regardless if it was Winters' fault on that specific play or someone else's, the fact is our Offense was/is a turnover machine so you cant be throwing the ball around there
Playing for Field Goals are not the way to win. Just stop. It's pussy-ball. You play to win and playing for Field Goals is the exact opposite of that. We weren't a turnover machine at that point in the season and in fact Geno was actually looking like a star for the first 6 QTRs of the season.
well, we played it your way and lost.......its called in-game management. If hteres 9 minutes left in the quarter....if we're losing at the time...if GB gets the ball to start the half.....these are some reasons to do what you suggest...in that specific time and scenario in the game, the JETS clearly PLAYED IT WRONG......Plus the other factor youre forgwtting is that we were running the ball down their throats on that drive. JUST BECAUSE YOU RUN DOESNT MEAN YOU SETTLE FOR A fg...WE ALSO CLOULD HAVE run IT INTO THE END ZONE. My cap lock key is a cunt so that's why it looks like a retard typed this.
We were throwing all over them throughout the first half. We ran the ball 3 plays on that drive. So, should we have run it 3 more times? So, then we run it 3 times for 5 yards (because now GB is gearing up for the run) and kick the FG then you MMQB's would be screaming that we throw it there and running the ball playing for the FG is pussy ball. A bunch of know-nothings around here. When you have a team on the ropes you go for the kill. THat's what they were trying to do. Winters missed the block which caused the hit on Geno which caused the INT. Poor execution caused the bad play, not bad play calling. I don't care what you people say. You go for the kill in that spot 100% of the time.
And if he is hired by a network, he'll be fired before his first season is up for saying something really stupid. Rex doesn't have the intelligence, class or analytical ability to survive on TV. IMO the only chance he has to stay in football is to accept another job as a DC (if one is offered), try to rehab /change his image, learn offense and STs, and become more than a one-trick pony on D. If not, he'll be heading off for retirement.
I KNOW that Ron Wolf is telling him that would be a colossal mistake. Let's just hope that Woody listens!
