Personally, I would be on the phone with Malzahn or Sumlin, and even David Shaw, and see if they have any interest in the HC job because there's not many hot candidates around the league now that Harbaugh is going to Michigan. Then I would be on the phone with Trestman right now to take over the offense, and here's a name for defensive coordinator for ya: Brent Venables from Clemson. As for GM I have no fuckin idea Happy Black Monday
First order of business is hiring the GM and letting him decide who he wants as the HC. Then you let the HC assemble his own coordinators and assistants. As far as GM candidates go though, I have no idea. I am not an NFL insider, I can't claim to know who's "good" and "up and coming". No one on this board can claim to either. We have no idea how much responsibility these candidates have had with their current teams and how much they have contributed to their success.
Plan might be to hire no one and see if they can do better than 4-12 with no one actually there. I think it can be pulled off.
Get on the line with some promising Assistant GM's and Director's of Player Personnel. I have no knowledge of who the respected assistants are in NFL circles, but hopefully Woody's consultants know. I saw that they were looking at the Bengals and Chiefs director's of player personnel. That would be nice to get some legitimate football guys in here. I liked Idzik's philosophy and I hope whoever we bring in has the same strategy, just executes it better.
Don Banks was on WFAN earlier today. He said that DeCosta is still a target, but no one knows for sure if he'll continue rejecting offers as the heir-apparent (?sp) to Newsome.
The plan is the same old shit. You have to have an owner who has a philosophy and spine. Woody has neither. The media will make the next guy out to be the best thing since sliced bread, until they realize they have to eat this bread everyday. Then if we are not winning according to other's time table, the bitching and complaining will begin again. We are hamsters in a wheel. We aren't going anywhere.
Via Schefter on Twitter Though Jim Harbaugh is expected to land at Michigan, NFL teams such as Bears, Jets, Raiders continue making overtures to change his mind.
Hire GM who in turn hires HC who in turns hires Staff. This has to be the order of succession or else its doomed to fail.
The plan? The plan is to hire all new coaches, put in a new offense, a new defense and hope in 10 years to become respectable again.
Can't you people read? Woody hired Wolf and Casserly as consultants, they'll look for and talk to candidates they feel are worthy of the positions. Woody will interview those folks and hires will be made. Last time Woody didn't consult with football people to hire Idzic, who knew finance and nothing about football. Wolf and Casserly are two of the smartest inside men of NFL football, this was a masterful move by Woody to improve the team.
Hire new employees in no specific order, guaranteeing they are confused about their roles on the team and start this process over again.
Hire GM, hire coach, hire staff. GM and coach come up with rebuilding plan that is 100% in unison and does not have as any sort of goal pushing the chips to the center of the table to try to make the playoffs in 2015. Most veterans should be cut. The roster should be overturned other than young talent. Let's do this right.
There is no plan. The first guy possibly in the entire history of the organization with an actual plan was just run out of town because he dared to think long term and didn't kiss the media's ass. You reap what you sow.
really what this shows me is that fans do have a say in NY and if a team ruffles enough feathers, things will eventually happen.
