I saw further rip jobs by both Mehta and Cimini on John Idzik who further exasperated them by blowing them off yesterday. They said he was was stubborn didn't listen to other personnel guys because he wanted to get all of the credit if players he chose did well and that Rex was doomed because he didn't give him a cover corner. That he micromanaged everyone in the organization and if he stayed no decent HC would have applied for the job. You have to give Idzik some of the blame for the kind of hatred he garnered. But these guys are both jokes as sports writers.

We'll definitely lose a few players to wherever Rex goes unless it's the booth.. FUCK I'm mad Jets footballwon't be the same without Rex on the sidelines.

Idzik got a pretty raw deal too. If he was a more likeable guy he'd 100% be back here. There's no doubt in my mind he left this team in a better situation then he got it..even tho he got the best HC in Jets history fired in the process. 40 million plus and the 6th pick is a good situation to inherit and why I have hope for the next regime.

He did get a raw deal but he contributed to it by not understanding that overwhelming public antipathy towards him and his moves would force him out. It's not fair but it's reality. He had to do a better job of defending his work and the Jets than he did. That's what got him fired, the inability to project the confidence required to maintain his value to the organization. Again, it's not fair but it is what it is.

He was on record a decade or more ago as saying that he'd rather get fired for making the right moves than make the wrong ones and keep his job. That's what happened in the end with the Jets.

Not to be a dick, but do you really think any mock draft done by any nitwit could yield worse results?

The exceptions would be in later rounds 4th on, where you might find a hidden gem. It takes a lot of studying to find the late round picks, the first 3 rounds have pretty much the same names on everyone's boards.

Right we have to rebuild that is a good reason you don't force a coach on a GM

You are going to get ripped because everyone wants to think it's more complicated than that but this is actually not a bad point at all.

The funny thing is that even in sports with minor league systems that would require more detailed scouting and where players come from all ends of the Earth making it more complicated they are trending towards your exact suggestion.

In hockey for example the Maple Leafs just bought a popular website and hired it's founders to run their front office/scouting department. The Edmonton Oilers hired a blogger, the New Jersey Devils did the same.. and there's more. In baseball the Houston Astros are doing the same thing.. a couple NBA teams are doing the same.

In the NFL it's even easier for scouting due to not having minor league systems and having virtually every draftable player playing in this country and on some sort of media. Nobody is really ever "undiscovered".
You or I could get an ESPN 3 subscription and scout every single player... yet they want to make it seem more complicated by overvaluing combines, interviews, senior bowl practices and personal workouts. All of which really has nothing to do with how the player looks on the field on game day.

There's definitely something to be said for keeping scouting simple, trusting the consensus and drafting based on what you see on film only. Also something to be said for saving resources by utilizing the internet and available media. No need to overcomplicate things.

In hockey, most players don't even get a chance to play in the NHL until a few years after they are drafted. Players who come out and play immediately are the exception, not the rule. In football, there's no such thing as a player staying in college or going to juniors after they get drafted. It's NFL or bust. The impact is immediate, so there's less projecting of what a player may become while playing under someone else's system.

Rex really was never that good at recruiting players. Other than Bart Scott (another big mouth) who did he ever get. If he's so great why didn't one of the cover corners he coveted not sign here even after being offered big contracts.

    YES! YES! YES!

Now go forth Woody and get Marc Ross from the Giants to be the GM, like you almost did 2 years ago but because of the Rex stipulation, he pulled out. He will find us a worthy coach and greatness shall return to the Jets again!

That's on Woody. Running his team via fan approval?

Not saying Idzik was any good, but he got fired because Woody saw fan reaction and was scared of losing asses out of seats.

They certainly have the same names but not the same order. If we strictly followed the prescribed draft order created by boards we would never have gotten Sheldon Richardson (He was projected to be 18th-20th pick after Loutoitiotia). We probably wouldn't have gotten Wilkerson (an early 2nd, not a late first).

Our scouting dept is pretty bad but it is a scouting dept. Just as any NFL team will beat any college level team, any full scounting dept will find better players than any individual mock draft expert... that is, unless he has the same hours put into scouting each year and the same amount of data available to teams.

As much as I liked Rex, four years of no playoffs is untenable. I know Rex has had some poor personnel (especially at QB), but how many coaches in the NFL would last after 4 years of no playoffs?

Thank You Rex Ryan for the Two best years a Jets fan born after 69 can remember. You gave this team an identity which we have been missing since Bill Parcells. Best of luck to you !!

And John Idzik thanks for two of the worst seasons I can remember as a Jets fan.
