Being officially eliminated I figured a top 10 QB list would be fun to do and see what other peoples ideas were. For me the list is made up of either guys who have had hall of fame careers or are guys that if you were starting a team who you'd feel good about building around as guys who can carry a team, you won't find any game managers on my list of top 10 QB's , okay you can make an argument for one of the guys being a mainly game manager QB, hint he's #10 on my list. I've divided my choices in to basically 3 groups with one 'tweener listed'. Each group is in no real particular order, though it is the order in which I put them in to that group. the first group is the elite's and while they are the elite group there is only one of the 3 I'd build a team around, two of them are in the twilight of their careers and one of those two is probably only 1 or 2 years at most from retiring (Peyton), the other is still probably around 5 years from retiring at most. Anyway, here's mine, what's yours? First 3 are easy, though you can argue about the order. Peyton Manning Tom Brady Aaron Rodgers Next 3 are somewhat more difficult to determine who the next 3 should be. Andrew Luck Ben Roethlisberger Matt Ryan The next QB could have easily slid into the previous 3 or the next 3, to me he's a tweener between the two groups. Joe Flacco. And the last 3 that I have in my top 10. This group is in no particular order, though Brees probably is the best of the 3. Drew Brees Matthew Stafford Russell Wilson. The last group is probably the most controversial, there are a number of guys I considered for this last group including guys like: Tony Romo, Eli Manning, Philip Rivers, Alex Smith, etc. and to be fair you can make an argument for any of these guys being in the 8-10 positions . Probably the one's you could most argue for would be Romo, followed by Manning and Rivers. all are good QB's but all are very inconsistent.
1. P Manning 2. T Brady 3. A Rodgers 4. D Brees 5. Roethlisberger 6. R Wilson 7. P Rivers 8. A Luck 9. Flacco 10. Matt Ryan
1. Brady 2. Rodgers only have these 2 guys before Peyton because of their ability to play above average in cold weather games. If the game is in a dome I put Peyton 1st. 3. P.Manning 4. Brees 5. Roethslisberger 6. Luck 7. Romo 8. Wilson 9. Rivers 10. Flacco
1) Joe Namath 2) Ken O'Brien 3) Boomer Esiason 4) Richard Todd 5) Chad Pennington 6) Brett Favre 7) Vinny testaverde 8) Ray Lucas 9) Al Woodall 10) Mark Sanchez *Now there is a list to behold !!
I was kind of hoping you would fix Brett, but not Favre lol. Damn! One of the first things i ever learned to spell haha no joke
The Jets traded Richard Todd to New Orleans for the Saint's #1 draft pick (#15 overall) in the 1984 draft. So with two 1st round picks (#10 & #15), the Jets with their first 1st round pick select S Russell Carter who played 4 seasons with the Jets, was traded to the Raiders and was out of the NFL after 6 years. The next pick in that draft at #11? Wilber Marshall. Strike one. And with their second 1st round pick (#15 overall) the Jets selected Ron Farout who was out of the NFL after two seasons. Strike two. They also had a pair of draft picks near the top of the 2nd round (#37 & #39). With the #37 pick, they drafted center Jim Sweeney, a solid player (with the #38 pick, the Bengals picked Boomer Esiason). Then with the #39 pick the Jets selected TE Glenn Dennison who played 1 year fot the Jets and 1 year with the Redskins. Strike three.
1. Aaron Rodgers 2. Tom Brady 3. Peyton Manning 4. Drew Brees 5. Tony Romo 6. Ben Roethlisberger 7. Phillip Rivers 8. Matt Ryan 9. Joe Flacco 10. Andrew Luck
I think I would edit my list now to not include one of Stafford, or Ryan. I would put Wilson in there. He is just too good to not be top 10. He doesn't have any big game WRs or TEs.
Flacco is the most confusing QB in the NFL. He's good but sometimes great. He doesn't put up huge passing numbers but he keeps his INTs low. If he didn't start on a strong team like BAL I'm not sure if he is who he is today, but he's always been part of a winning culture. His playoff numbers reflect similar things with a great 4 game stretch to help win the SB. It doesn't feel like he can just win a game for you but he keeps on playing for winning, playoff teams. It's crazy to play the what if game if the Broncos D actually defended a Hail Mary pass. Does flacco resign in Baltimore? What's his contract? Whats the thought process on him? Even with recent injury (and maybe being old struggles), my top 10 this year in no order: Rodgers Rivers Brady Peyton Luck Brees Big Ben Romo Ryan Wilson Stafford, flacco and Eli were tough. Wilson passes so much less than every other QB but he's so effective. Hard to balance that out.
How in a million years could you put Rivers 2nd? I can't even see a case being made for top 5. Anyway, about that play 2 years ago: Even if it went differently, they would have kept him I'm sure. You don't get rid of a QB just because he isn't elite.
My list is in no order. No you don't get rid of a QB because he isn't elite but you start asking if you can win with him. Remember Baltimore had not signed him yet, they were playing wait and see.
When I made my list in November I had questions about Romo's back and I really think a lot of this years success has been due to the running game threat. to me Romo's a lot like Rivers, a very good QB who makes some critical mistakes that just keeps them bouncing on and off the bottom portion of the top 10 QB's.
