Props to Trey Ko, he called it from the get-go... I think it's pretty evident now that Leon is the RB to give most of the carries to. He is shifty and has some speed and really gives it hell when he runs even though he is small. Barlow will not succeed with our O-line because there are no holes for him to get through, so the only dragging of LBs he can to is to get back to the line of scrimmage after he is hit in the backfield. Leon can slash and make people miss and accelerates like a bastard. I really thought Blaylock would be like that, and be performaing better than he is, but nonetheless, Leon Washington has been impressive and I think he should start. And with Curtis: Being on the PUP list meant that he was going to have to miss 6 weeks at least right? Or was it that he couldn't play for 6 weeks, and at that point the team had to state that he would return or else place him on IR? If it's the latter, then I think it's reasonable to believe that the future of Curtis' career should be known some time next week. If it's the former, I still would like to at least have an update...
Agree. Especially in combination with Houston I think that we are fine at RB and Washington may become a star. No RB early in next years draft just DL and OL.
After week 6, Curtis Martin is eligible to practice. They then have 3 weeks to see how he's doing without activating him. They can do it before then if they want. After those 3 weeks, we have to decide to activate him, or IR him for the entire season.
I disagree with that. If we have the chance to get a good RB in the first round next year we should definitly take it.
I agree, but I don't think a lot of explosive RBs will be there in the first round. Peterson will be gone within the first 3 picks (not us), Kenny Irons probably won't be there (though I would take him if he were there at our pick), and Michael Bush is probably too much of a risk coming off a big injury. Maybe Garrett Wolfe in Round 2, but he's much of the same type as Washington. On the other hand, there will be plenty of big play WR to choose from and D-lineman and linebackers. Paul Posluzny would be a great fit at ILB, and being a Michigan fan, I love DE Lamar Woodley (would be a great OLB in the 3-4).
I don't watch too much college football so I really wouldn't know this but what about Michael Hart from Michigan. This kid looks really good.
Washington seems pretty promising. I can't wait for Houston to get healthy so we can use them both. It might be the start of some kind of running game this year.
leon should be the starter. stop throwin houston in the mix. yeah he runs hard. the yards he got in the colts game were the only time the o line was actually blocking. barlow didnt have the holes that houston got. i say give leon 20 plus carries a game. he may be little but the guy is tough. barry sanders was the same size and warrick dunn is even smaller. so why not give the rock.
i really dont think that leon should be playing every down right at the moment. He is just not big or tough enough for that. Work him with Houston and that will be a great combination
everyone always complains that he can't handle the load of 20 carries a week. why is that? tiki barber, warrick dunn and others can handle the load. And its not like we can't bring in barlow for short yardage situations. He's clearly the best option we have right now, lets use him and see if he can hold his own instead of speculating that he isn't big enough to stay healthy. Fact of the matter is most injuries are complete fluke injuries, lets not factor something like that into choosing who should start or not.
The starter is irrelevant, both Barlow and leon will be used and they compliment each other very well. After Barlow gets some carries and the D's have a bigger, slower guy to deal w/ it makes leon seem that much quicker when he comes in. we need them to feed off each other and make each other better. Right now we don't have a feature back, leon may develop into that but as of now it's going to be a tandem.
You know this is interesting. Here are some numbers on a prominent back. Who is it? Position: RB Height: 5-10 Weight: 205 Born: 04/07/1975 College: ?????? NFL Experience: 10 In terms of size this guy would seem to replicate Washington and he has proven he is very successful in the NFL. I think Washington just needs the reps. I think there will be a lot of times where he only gains a couple of yards, and then boom he'll break one for 40. Washington has the most promise out of all our backs and if he proves he can do it, it will put us ahead of the game going into the draft for next year.
i love mike hart. but people say hes not big or fast enough to make it in the pros. hes about 5-9 200 which is not bad but runs about a 4.5. and is also compared to curtis martin. could probably get him in the second. imo houston should start (is he coming back for the dolphins?) definitely if he gets rid of his revolution helmet, they looks so bad. look what it did for brandon jacobs.
rofl, the revolution helmets are the best thing to happen to football. theyre almost weightless and you feel like you can take a bat to the head with one on. ALOT better than most helmets. thats just my opinion. forget the mike hart talk, if we took him in the 2nd wed be dumb. cedric houston and leon washington AND kevan barlow provide the talent youd find from a back in the 2nd rd and later. our line just cant run block. if we take a rb in the draft it needs to be a premier back. (which we might not be in position to get) if anything we need to address the OL, DL, and LB. and im not disagreeing with you mike hart is good, but where we would have to draft him, I could see us taking someone else who'd make a bigger impact on D.
I keep thinking we have to take a D-lineman in the first, but then I rememebr who have to huge guys on the IR that we haven't seen enough to truly evaluate. What if we take a D-lineman then find out Pouha or Tui are good....it will be tough next year, but we need to find a way to stop the run and get pressure up the middle because ever since Ferg left we've been hurtin' on the D-line...
Since nobody was taking this on. The numbers above are of one Tiki Barber. If Washington turned out as good as Tiki, I would not complain at all.
Woah what about Marshawn Lynch? He is big powerful runner that rarely goes down after first or even second contact. He has awesome hands and has experience at the qb position. His versatility puts him above Peterson, Irons, and Bush in my book.
