if he had a few guys really shine (even with the 3-11 record) then I wouldn't be as sour on him as I am. But he completely missed and we are literally starting over going into 2015 when we could have had a bunch of young players to build on.
Having the extra $$ going into next year is a smart move but not for FA. It's to keep the guys we have (Wilkerson, Richardson, Mangold) and allow us to make a move in FA if necessary.
I agree but all players develop at different rates. we may look back at it as a good draft but it should have been a franchise changing draft.
I don't wanna sound like a dick here, but do you know Idzik or something? Your opinion is just as much of a fact as mine is.
With the way our roster is now and with all the holes we have, if these guys had potential, they would be in there playing. That's how I look at it.
some guys aren't ready right away. I think had Milliner been healthy and McDougle the season would have been very different and the way we view Idzik would be very different.
FA's were coming in and out of here long before the draft. If he was basing a starting CB position on a potential draftee then he's even worse than I thought.
mediocre CBs were coming in and out that wanted to be paid like stars. we weren't going to be a SB contender this year even if Geno was good, he wasn't going to sacrifice the future to win an extra game in 2014 by overpaying for mediocre CBs. I like that approach, my only problem w/ the way he approached FA was not re-signing Cro. that could have been worth a few games to us. I don't understand that move but I am sure there is more to it than we know/
"It's pretty obvious that his plan is to not tie up a large amount of money in a few FA signings..." That's not a plan. A plan revolves around what you're going to do to realize an objective, not what you're not going to do. I've seen what he's not going to do. I haven't seen many successful moves he's made to realize the objective, unless he's planning on drafting in the top-ten for the next several years.
Definitely worth the money we would have had to give him to not take the Giants offer, which was too much money to begin with.
Haha, if this is real, it's awesome. Earlier in the season, I wouldn't even care about it, but with all the loud noise coming from people who want Idzik fired, I think it would be good to show Woody that they represent only one part of Jets fans, and there are plenty of other reasonable people who think it's silly to judge a GM in 2nd year of rebuilding. Don't want the Jets to turn into Knicks #2, a team so afraid to rebuild they d rather put up with decades of being mediocre. Where is this notion that he completely missed on the 2014 draft coming from? Even aside from the obvious fact that you can't judge a draft 3 months in, we can already see a bunch of positives. Amaro is looking really good, Pryor has looked MUCH MUCH better since they started playing him at strong safety, his natural position, and IK has impressed in limited time so far. We still got Dozier developing, he was very highly regarded in the draft and could step in like Aboushi next year, we got Reilly on special teams for now, and we got Evans and McDougle returning next year.
what mediocre CB's got paid like stars? Revis, Davis and Talib were the only guys who got paid like stars, as they are elite players for their position. Revis and Davis have played like the best 2 CB's in the league this season, so they were well worth the money. There were a lot of value signings to be had as well. Graham, Browner, Cro, Munnerlyn. There are 10 CB's playing well this season, all available as FA's this past offseason. We were a team desperate at the position, had plenty of means to address it, and the available talent pool was deeper than ever. With all that, Idzik walks away with Patterson. It's criminal how he handled the position.
we didn't get visits from all of them, who are the guys we missed out on that you have an issue with? he took a gamble w/ Patterson who is pretty darn good when healthy. the gamble backfired. it happens. I'd rather do that than overpay a DRC or Verner.
I love this notion that free agency means you just go sign whoever you want without their opinion on the matter. Let's pretend Browner had to choose between the Pats and the Jets, equal money (any more than what he got would be a bad deal). Who is he choosing? And are we gona be upset over Munnerlyn?
