You are right, Jay Cutler is not a leader. He can get the ball to the receivers which to me is the reason I would want him here - we can focus on building the offensive line, get some more weapons. I think the guy still has something to prove in this league - if he's motivated - it could pay dividends for us.
....and Sanchez...I'd take him, tired of 25 - 4 yard passes every game, throw the ball down the field and open Chris Ivory up
Leadership isnt required to win the Super Bowl either. Eli isn't a real leader, and has won. And for the people saying he couldn't handle NY, which is probably true, he does play in the 2nd largest NFL TV market in the NFL behind NY..... And this Bears mess isnt entirely his fault, he has had a 2012 Sanchez type of year but have you watched the Bears games? he legitimately has to score on every possession or else his team is losing. Im not endorsing Jay Cutler either, I have to see where our draft position is, but he technically would be the best available option for 2015, better than Mariotta, better than Winston, better than Foles, etc, for 2015. Keyword:2015. Winston may end up better, but not in 2015.
They don't run the ball nearly enough. Against Detriot, Forte only had like 4 carries. They have no play-action game. The offensive line has taken a step back also. They are putting the game entirely on Cutler to perform well each and every game. Hell the defense is bad too. If we can get Cutler into this run first offense the play-action game is going to be very strong.
Winston's character issues really bother me, if we draft Winston then fine don't get Cutler, but please for the love of God - no more Geno Smith.
My hope: Tampa signs Cutler Tennesse drafts Mariotta Jets draft Winston Doubt it works out like this.
Winston is a better pro prospect then Mariota. Winston has the "IT" factor. The only thing that turned me off about Winston AS a PROSPECT - was that slow ass release -- that needs to be fixed ASAP.
we pass way too much too. Cutler is bad in any offense. he may put up good #s in some but you aren't winning anything w/ him and I wouldn't want a young QB learning from him.
If we miss out on Winston - then who will be the starter? You can try and pry Bradford away from the Rams or outright sign Hoyer as a stop-gap. Our options are very limited and we have to strike fast. I see Cutler as a 2 yr QB at the very least. I would rather give Winston a shot though.
Winston may drop regardless. Hopefully he does, the guy reminds me of like a Ben roethlisberger. These run first qbs are not the answer, and even if mariotta worked next year, it does not mean it will work in 3-4 years....kaepernick, rg3, etc.
Dude, you are completely right. So many people fall in love with these running QB's but they never last. I don't categorize Russell Wilson as a running QB. Certainly not in the same category as Kap, RG3, Newton etc. He's so much more a field general who runs, than a running QB. Running QB's are not the answer
The Bears have a historically bad defense this year. Cutler has been pretty mediocre this year too, I admit, but I also blame poor coaching and poor OLine play and injured receivers and not running enough. The Jets would easily be 8-8 with Cutler on this team. We could be a playoff team with a healthy Sam Bradford. Either way we need the right offense in place.
There's no way Sam Bradford costs much. He's torn both of his ACLs in the past 2 years. He is a great buy-low option (assuming the Rams can't restructure his contract and have to let him go to free agency).
I'd be all for it. I'd make sure I had a decent backup plan though. We have seen the buy low option work out for us before (Vinny), so it would be cool to try it again.
