I'd like to see us make a play for RG3, maybe Foles if he's available. Two guys with bonafide talent who have had excellent NFL seasons. Obviously they're prototypes for different systems, who knows who the coach will be.

All I can think of when I see names like Hoyer and Locker is "Most Likely To Lose A Quarterback Competition to Geno Smith in 2015."

I think we'll have some options whatever happens. We might get Winston after the first and second picks, because of his baggage, we might move up a spot or two to get him as well, for example let's say we end up drafting 6th and he is still there by 4th or 5th pick, might make sense to gamble on him, if they like him. If both Mariota and Winston are gone, we can draft a QB prospect in later rounds. Those work out much less often than 1st rounders, but it happens sometimes. We might trade for some good young QB if the circumstances present themselves for whatever reason. We are in a good position to do that actually, with lots of cap space, high draft picks, and we could possibly add Wilkerson to sweeten the deal if needed. Worst comes to worst, and we cant get anyone we like this offseason, we can build out other areas of the team, and position outselves to draft a QB next offseason.

The plan should certainly not be to panic and trade the farm to move up and get a quarterback as much as this teams fans are crying for it.

For me, a lot of this season mirrors the 2005 season although we have some bigger problems than that team did but the issue of quarterback remained the same. Pennington proved he was going to be injury prone for the rest of his career and we couldn't protect a quarterback tp save our lives. What did we do? Go out and draft two top lineman and rebuild from within.

Look, our offensive line is horrible. Vick and Geno have been horrible but are they better with improved offensive line play? Of course they are. Look at the wonders of being protected does for even mid level quarterbacks. There has been a lot of times this season Geno has panicked in the pocket when there's been no pressure because he's been hit so much. I'm not defending his play, but his quarterback clock is about 4 seconds shorter than it should be because he's trying to get rid of the ball the second he drops back to throw so he doesn't give up another sack.

He's not the answer going forward but the quarterback positions future on this team will not be answered by drafting a quarterback and throwing him into the fire without shoring up the offensive line first. If we take care of it in free agency then a rookie quarterback is plausible and makes sense to give a chance to play right away. If we don't fix the offensive line we need to sit any young quarterback we draft or else he's doomed. Blake Bortles might be ruined regardless if he was going to be good or not because he started for a team that didn't need to play him yet.

The rookie sensations of Andrew Luck, Wilson and RG3 at least initially made this entire league enamored with the idea of throwing guys in right away and hoping for the best. Realistically these guys, especially since most of them come from spread and read option offenses, need to sit. Geno Smith probably wouldn't have amounted to anything but he had a much better shot of succeeding if he sat for two years and learned to read a defense coming from a one read Air Raid offense.

Rodgers, Brady, Brees, Romo and Rivers all sat. That's five of the top ten quarterbacks in the league, arguably at least. It's a catch 22 because there are Matt Ryan and Andrew Lucks that start right away and have success but all of the quarterbacks thst start right away come from a pro style offense. If they're not multi year starters in pro style offenses they need to sit.

Furthermore when you look at some quarterbacks rushed into starting duty like Stafford, Cutler, Cam Newton, RG3 etc. They still struggle with the same fundamentals they did from day one because they weren't given time to work on their craft and rely all on big arms and athleticism to survive. Poor footwork, bad arm angles, progression reads and making the right checks at the line to get into the right play and just tucking the ball and taking a sack, stuff like that can be worked on if teams are patient with them.

I still think Winston will be there when the Jets pick. Between now and the draft all his dirty laundry will be hung out to dry.

He wont have the FSU staff and boosters covering for him...ESPN will be all over him.

If Jameis beats Oregon and Alabama and is still there when we pick, I'd gladly take him.

Exactly, people were worried about Johnny Douchebag I mean Manziel and he fell to what 24 or something? Winston has potential legal issues so there is a chance no one in the top 5 will go after him.

If Jameis beats both Oregon and Alabama and plays great then his stock will rise into the top 3 and the Jets will have no shot.

Matt Ryan is now 9-21 as the Falcon's starting QB over the least two seasons. That's got to be damaging his brand in Atlanta. How many franchise QB's lose 70% of the games they start?

Geno Smith's record as starting QB for the Jets is now 10-17 as a comparison.

To be fair his defense isn't exactly the 85 Bears either

Cook isn't coming out this yr - he's my favorite QB prospect even with Mariota. Dak is intriguing but is a work in progress as a passer.

Right, and Peyton Manning and Tom Brady lost games regularly because their defenses weren't top flight.

If you're a franchise QB your team wins more than it loses when you're on the field. The Falcons are a bad team with Matt Ryan at QB right now. Is that his fault? No. But he's the 2nd highest cap figure for a QB in the NFL and if Mike Smith goes, well the next coach may want his own QB given his predecessor just got fired for losing too many games.

Matt Ryan is in the similar situation as Phillip Rivers before McCoy came to town - no way does Ryan leave the Falcons

The Chargers have never gone worse than 7-9 with Phillip Rivers at QB and they've never had back-to-back seasons under .500 with him at the helm. He wouldn't likely be in SD right now if the team had two seasons as bad as the Falcons have had the last two seasons back to back.

Name a QB who started 16 games for his team after his first year and went 4-12 who was actually a franchise QB. The closest you'll come is Drew Brees and he's not playing for the team he went 4-12 for. Actually Brees went 2-9 his second year and the Chargers drafted Phillip Rivers in the next draft.

Chargers were still one of the more talented teams in the league on both sides of the ball - they were under-performing with Norv Turner. Falcons? Not so much. No defensive players on that team at all. Matt Ryan is still one of the better QBs in this league - I don't see a coach letting him go just because the team itself has been rotten.

Falcons are awful on defense right now, why would they get rid of Matt Ryan and create even MORE problems? Hell, if the coach wants to get rid of Matt Ryan - Jets better be at that door right away!

Troy Aikman. 3 straight losing seasons to begin his career. Granted wasn't 16 games his rookie yr but c'mon 0-11.
