The Jags are a very good team, but they are not as good as we made them look today. What does everyone think it was. The matchup of our run stop vs their run game? Just one of those games that everyone has once in a while? lack of aggression from our offense?
i forget who said it in the game thread, but JAX beat us in trenches. Their D-line generated enough pressure that they could drop 7 in coverage. Their O-line opened holes all day. They had over 170 rushing yards and averaged nearly 5 YPC.
you guys can call it whatever you want - puss%$%, too physical, not prepared etc etc but the bottom line is that the jags have better talent in the trenches..... and del rio has systems in place that complement that talent. now the jets are in the early stages of improving the trenches and after watching today we are at least 2 more years removed from gathering the horses to compete with teams like the jags. we have 2 rookie OL who appear to be more finesse than power so the jets i am sure will complement them with some power type OL during the next year or 2. the defense - forget it - its their turn for a makeover starting next offseason, especially the front seven - the only player i see being somewhat safe is vilma - and i am not even sure about that. this game took the froth out of the website that had been building the first few games. patience and in a couple years we will see if this is gonna work or turn into another edwards fraud. i think it will work and we'll enjoy the ride. jil
I agree with you as is mostly usual, and it's why I can't see all of this talk about a runningback in the first round. It ain't happening.
Today had nothing to do with lack of preperation. It was a simple matter of one team that has all the parts together out executing a team that still has several personnel holes learning new systems. It happens.
It was a bad matchup for us and the Jags are a good team coming off a tough loss. They just steam rolled us today, it happens.
Jaguars are actually even better than they played. You have to remember we did not have Stroud our only probowler last season on defense, or our 2 first rnd picks from this and last season. Byron only had 140 yards and missed over half of his passes he is a much better QB than that. We will only get better.
Teams like the Jags match up really well against the Jets. The Jets can handly strong offense / weak defense teams... but against strong defense / average offense teams, we're in trouble. The defense is too weak to stop even average offenses, while the offense is good enough to beat bad defenses but not good ones.
Yeah, and we didn't have Houston and Coles wasn't 100%. Don't kill yourself when the Jags don't get to the SB this year...or next. Go away now
Yeah, thats pretty much how i see it. I'm not even as bothered by this one like I was last week. Atleast today I knew it was over 15 mins into the game. But yeah, any time we face an RB like taylor and a huge O line like that,we fold.
It happens. Are the jags better than the Colts? Perhaps -- except for the fact that they never beat them. I think this week is a real test b/c the Fins stink. So far we're 2-0 against bad teams. (The bills stink also -- dont be fooled). And 0-3 against playoff teams. Would it have been nice to play better yesterday and lose 41-17? I think the jets took TOO much out of their loss to the colts.
If it makes you feel any better, no matter how many regular season games the Jags win they will get bounced in the playoffs as usual when Byron is forced to make a play.
The best thing that could happen to both the Jets AND their fans happened yesterday. That game should have exposed a laundry list of problems Mangini will have to address both on the field and on the bench as far as game prep/adjustments, etc. He and his entire staff absolutely sucked yesterday and were exposed as rookies. This is a good thing because it forces them to step up and improve. Up until now, the onus has been completely on the players, now, its on the coaching staff as well. Hopefully, they won't start blaming the Refs.. As far as the team is concerned, inspite of all the wishful thinking going on around here, there's not enough talent on this team, even with a soft schedule, to make the playoffs so hopefully, that will bring some fans back on the reservation. As ATL said, we're rebuilding. Don't mistake this for Retooling or you'll be slitting your wrists by game 12..
with mike martz and donnie henderson at the coordinators position..... i'm thinking about it (J/k). they have the CS that half of us wanted during last year's coach hunt. watch... in a few years the lions will be a force. probably before the jets will.
