The options for us are very minimal. If we miss on Mariota/Winston there isn't a QB in the draft I would gamble on. There's talk of STL wanting Bradford back, but if he doesn't restructure (which I think he will) he will be cut. RG3 is almost certainly gone, but do you want to invest in an injury prone mobile QB who throws his teammates under the bus? There's Brian Hoyer, but at this point I wouldn't touch him. Manziel isn't going to be a trade option. Jay Cutler is a guy I would stay far away from, I don't want that contract and he will not restructure. If we don't draft one of the top 2 we are in for another year of mediocrity waiting until the 2016 Draft for Cook, Goff or Hackenberg.
Cutler does not have to restructure. Chicago will likely have to eat a big part of his guaranteed money in order to trade him. Ftr I would not want Cutler's current contract, so if Chicago will not eat part of it, I would say no deal.
Winston has thrown a bunch of picks this year. That's going to count against him in the draft evaluation process. Assuming all the legal smoke around him is just smoke I'm betting he goes back to FSU for 2015. If he's in enough trouble that that's not an option, well he's not going to look very god in the top 5 either with all the picks and all the controversy, right?
Exactly my point...I wouldn't touch Winston with a 200 ft. pool. As far as I'm concerned he doesn't even enter the draft conversation. Let him go and be a headache for a different team. PERIOD.
He's still trash with Watkins also. Shame, shame, shame. Still won't make the playoffs! But Orton over Geno Smith, cmon what is that really saying? Congrats you like Chicken Shit over Fish Shit or something
He's taking on a lot more responsibility this yr - now I am not a huge fan of Winston, I also think he likes to force things - but I think he's got far more potential then the previous 2 guys we drafted. If I had it my way, I'm not taking Mariota or Winston because they aren't the true real deal. With the cap ever increasing the idea of creating a STRONG offensive line that can stay together for 10 yrs could happen.
There is a chance that Geno is next years starter! Hear me out: He is on too cap friendly of a deal to just outright cut - so he will definitely be on the team next year. If we draft a top QB we won't be signing any vets. So that leave's Geno and for the sake of argument let's say Mariota. By no means should Mariota just be handed a starting job. There should be an open competition (not like the sham job this year) and if MM can't beat out Geno then he should be forced to sit. Let's not repeat history here - so many wanted Geno to start just because he wasn't Sanchez and that worked out terrible. If our new shiny toy isn't capable of beating out Geno of all people then he has no business starting!
It really makes me want to yack hampster shit when we talk about Geno and "just because he has a cap friendly deal" we should keep this turd around. I HATE that!!! If he sucks ass he's gone! I don't care if he counts $1 damn dollar to the cap. If he blows monkey butt then he is on the fast train out of NY and on to somewhere else.
Bradford would be one of the dumbest moves the jets could make... The guy cant stay healthy!!!!!!!!!!! Unless you are a Geno Smith fan there is no way you should want Bradfoed on the team.
Bradford isn't going anywhere. The team wants him back. He'll most likely have to restructure his contract, which he will because he has no power. He was injured the last two seasons. If he does not restructure, he will be cut.
We have Michael Vick, don't we? As long as he comes cheap I don't see why taking a chance on a Qb better than anyone we have now is a bad thing.
This is the dumbest statement I've heard today. Yeah all Geno Supporters want Bradford! I don't even want Geno Smith on this roster.
And I don't even want Geno Smith on the roster [nor did I want to draft him]. If I had it MY WAY QB1 - Bradford QB2 - Mariota QB3 - Simms Get a stable offensive line to protect Bradford - he gets hurt he gets hurt, but I got Mariota and a good line also. Far better than spending money on Jay Cutler.
I get why people want Winston but the picks are a HUGE issue. 13 TD's and 12 picks in his last 6 games. He's got a 5.7% interception percentage since the Louisville game.
I'd be pretty happy with RG3 and Cooper/OL if Mariota's out of our reach. Think RG3's upside is bigger than his downside - another bad Jets QB and people laugh at us? Who cares? Won't set us back more than a year.
Like many I really hated this idea when it was first mooted, but I've slowly come round to the possibility. Someone is going to try and sort him out, why not us? Is there anyone else out there that might be available in trade or FA that offers better potential to instantly turn us around and solve our QB situation? Yes it's a huge gamble, but it's a gamble that offers a massive pay-off if you win. Obviously it depends on where we are likely to draft and the possibility of drafting Mariota and how they evaluate Winston - I'm not missing on the chance to draft our QB if it is there.
