Define a home run? If you get a 3-4 year starter after the 3rd round I'd call that a home run. A Pro Bowl player in any round? Another home run. Where we have missed is drafting a home run at the most important position of all - QB. Had Todd, O'Brien, Nagle, Foley, Pennington, Clemens, Sanchez or Smith beocme elite players every other offensive draft pick would have looked a whole lot better.
that nugent draft was the dumbest draft I've ever seen a Jets GM have in my life. Even worse than Idzik in 2014
not really. that draft was terrible overall but we moved down, got the 2 guys we targeted the 1st 2 rd anyway, picked up vet TE and was able to get a PB caliber safety in Kerry Rhodes. look at the drafts around the league that year. it was not a good draft.
the fact that they got the 2 shit guys they targeted was the problem. An average kicker taken at the top of the draft and a CB who couldn't cover. good call there.
The next greatest HOF QB was in that draft and was selected very close to our original selection. Just saying...
I think it was more of Mangini than tanny.. Sure mangini missed on vernon but look at all the players he hit on, mangold brick, Harris, revis, leon Washington, Brad Smith these guys were good players. Rex is responsible for wilk and both Rex and idzik for sheldon
To be totally fair, in order to properly assess the draft quality of our WRs versus the competition it would help greatly to have a QB that can find the open man and actually throw him the ball. Till then our judgment of the WR quality is at best cloudy. however, we do know for an absolute fact that our ability to draft a Quality QB has been practically non existent since maybe Chad.
Meanwhile as thin as we are at DB we keep IK who has shown nothing as Dixon does well on TB its like for every smart move we make we make 3 crappy ones to counter
Yes which means he doesn't warrant his 2nd round pick right? Kickers aren't second round material unless they rarely if ever miss. That was a panic move by the Jets. No need for it.
