Im losing my mind....its like my short term memory comes and goes damn it...I keep getting sucked in once a month to clicking your click for greatness...
Flippin' BINGO right here...let me BOLD this... Who the hell knows what our young guys, including Simms, has to offer. Outside a couple of 1st round draft picks we have almost fully shit the bed in the draft over the last bunch of years. CLEARLY the Jet's "picker" is way the fuck off. I absolutely find it utterly hilarious that any remotely sane poster on this board could find fault in starting Matt Simms the last 4 games of a thoroughly shit filled washed up season. Vick is disinterested and Smith was a waste of a 2nd rounder who will be LUCKY to remain a backup here...or anywhere else for that matter. Start the damn kid and let's see if he is as BAD as everyone says he is...maybe he is...maybe he isn't... Why the hell should we care? 2 & 14 looks a hell of a lot better come draft day than 6 & 10...that is...unless we found a "gamer" at the QB position...or, at the very least, a serviceable body at the position. I don't know...sounds an awful lot like a win/win to me. Then again...there I go throwing sane logic around. Something that is sorely lacking in America today.
To add an additional point to all this talk about starting our 3rd string QB.... The guy playing for the Rams right now was street fodder... Not drafted, cut by the Rams, picked up on the Dolphins practice squad and then back with the Rams again. Looks pretty good to me...at least they play competitive football. I dunno...maybe it's just me but when your shit...er...ship is sinking any life preserver will do...
Ryan probably won't start Simms because he respects the BS in order like veterans, more game experience, etc. Also, Ryan won't come back next season so what is the point to start Simms who won't start anywhere. If Ryan was back next season then starting Simms may make sense because the evaluation would be under way.
The only thing I can think of is Phil must have pissed either in Rex's or Buddy's Wheaties along the way at some point. I guess it's a miracle the kid collects an NFL paycheck at this point. If he wasn't a viable candidate to make the field at some point then why in the hell pay him to be on the damn PS? Find someone who you "THINK" may be USEFUL someday. Unbelievable!!
I'm starting to thing most teams do this. They keep a smart QB (understands the playbook) for their scout team and kinda an extension to the so called camp arm. If not why do so many of these teams keep the same 3rd string guys? You'd think somewhere along the line at least a couple would make good starters...just doesnt happen.
You would absolutely think that...I certainly would place this in a logical thought process category. Who knows why it doesn't happen. There are so few roster spots in the league...you'd think every one of them would be as valuable as gold instead of just "throw away."
Johnson ran 17 times for 105 yards averaging nearly 6.2 yards per carry. Ivory ran 16 times for 62 yards for 3.9 yards per carry. Salas had a 20 yard run. Kerley had two runs, one for 20 yards and one for 18 yards. Geno averaged 4.25 yards per rush. Don't fix what ain't broken. People bitch when we run well then start passing more in the second half. Now when we stic with the run while it works, they bitch.
It was nice to see them run the ball well, but as a fan I'm far more interested in watching Geno Smith play to see if he might have a future with the team (although I'm pretty sure I have an answer to this question).
On the topic of giving younger players an opportunity, they placed Greg Salas on IR and called up, not Quincy Enunwa, but Chris Owusu... Could've been an opportunity to see this guy on the field finally.
If Folk had made all his FG's and the Dolphins had made their FG's we would have tied. It was obvious that the run less successful as the game went on.
I can give Folk a pass. A hip pointer is painful...especially in the cold. I have to agree with the talking heads, though, as well as we were running we should have hit quite a few play action pass opportunities. Serious waste!
Queue the Rocky Theme song. And make it the third one. Where he has to fight Mr. T. There is no tomorrow! There is no tomorrow! Show that training montage to Simms and we win!
It was broken though, they scored 1 TD all game... And in the 2nd half, if I'm counting correctly the RB/Harvin ran for 51 on 17 carries. 3.0 average. Almost like Miami adjusted and we didn't. That was the problem. Step 1 was awesome, they knocked Miami on their heels with the run game. Then that was it, there was no step 2. There was no adjustment of the gameplan to take advantage of the strong run game with some passes on unexpected passing situations
