BN...lake effect snow is probably the coolest weather phenomenon in the world (other then a once in a century noreaster . The lakes are not frozen yet..in fact they are not even close. The frigid air goes racing along the lakes and you describe it perfectly...areas just miles away go from a few inches to feet. If you notice the radar..as the wind direction changes and the heavy snow goes left or right several miles. Once the lakes freeze..or if they do freeze...it gets cut off to nothing. Sometimes in a warmer winter it can go on all winter. Amazing...really amazing...let me bring up buffalo n.y and lets see what the rest of the week shows.
Only downside to Lake Effect is that its so dry and high ratio (1:30 to sometimes 1:40) that it compacts and melts too fast in places like Western, and Central NY. The Tug Hill and the Adarondacks are the best sports for Lake Effect because they get more snow and they retain it better.

I would think that would be opposite JH. You are right im sure but the very cold temps and drier snow would be more of fluff factor but you are probably right because of the proximity to the moisture source? Not sure but cool fact.
Im going to take CBG up there for one of those events. Will need googles to protect me from the snow..and the saliva drooling from CBG.
Jay the bills play in Orchard ParkNY, which is the epicenter of this storm. The very worst area.by Saturday it's supposed to stop and rain like you say but what if the stadium is under 70 inches of snow!?!?
ahhhh...you are dead on sir...Orchard Park...can you imagine? If that rain does happen with temps in the 50s..Im pretty sure inside should be playable...but that area? Should be interesting to say the least BN.
updated the site with a possible noreaster for Thanksgiving. Something to watch out for. Less then 50/50 but only because of the days away. www.jaysweather.net
Seriously, I'm going to be upset with you if we get much snow this year. It'll totally be your fault. You are right more than most weathermen so I assume you have a way of controlling it.
then be nicer to me buddy..lol...jk. Um..I guess thanks GD..but thats a hell of a lot of pressure. Still not sure about the amount of snow..but the problem is..and we talked about this a few months ago..the cold temps are here early..and should be for about 75% of the winter. Key ingredient number 1. Now...sometimes that suppresses storms to the south so places like philly and DC...Virginia and even N.C. could be the snow winners (or losers for those that hate the stuff). I dont know GD..its been 4 years since the last time we looked at the long term and thought it would be an off year for snow...and cant come out and say that now. When you have cold air in place...its playing with fire to think easy winter. Sorry bud..I for one could use a winter off without boring you why...I just think we might have a repeat of last year..or maybe a bit worse. One potential is this. Unlike last year when we had a series of snowfalls but not many huge ones...this could also be a winter of well below temps (pretty much guaranteed now) but not the constant barrage of storms...only to have a few of those...but lets say 3 bombs. 3 big storms with decent breaks in between. All matters where that track sets up this year and we will have a good idea by the middle of December I believe.
Keeping an eye on 2 potentials. They surround Thanksgiving. First one is Wednesday and this could be a bit of a long shot...but the one on Black Friday is perhaps one to watch. www.jaysweather.net

Updated the weather forecasts for all the games this Sunday and Monday. Still showing a potential storm for next Friday...too far out to go bonkers with but one thing is for sure..those poor people around Buffalo NY will be getting another big snow maker next Friday and Saturday. http://jaysweather.net/football-sunday-weather-predictions/
The Wednesday night and Friday/Saturday storms are both showing up on overnight models..something to keep an eye on guys. Early in the season but with this much cold air lurking, no surprise. http://jaysweather.net/
