Let me know when he gets through an entire game without dropping a pass that hits him in the face or the chest.
man not even GRONK was catching everything his way. I think you're standards are skewed... i mean you chose AMARO of all people to criticize? dudes doing better than any other rookie TE in the receiving game. yeah he makes a drop here and there, every player does, but shit, no slack for the rookie performing at a slightly higher level than his peers?
I would argue I have a very low standard: Catch the balls that hit you in the hands. When I coached high school football, if I had a kid that couldn't meet this standard, he no longer played receiver; it's not a high bar for a 2nd round "receiving" NFL tight end. Further, Gronk is the best blocking TE in the league; Amaro is not.
I have that standard as well, but c'mon the dudes been playing well as a rookie. I'm not sure how one can complain about him that much. he's caught WAY more than he's dropped.
Who hasn't? And I mean that literally ... who in the league has more drops than catches? Hell, who in the history of the league has more drops than catches?
He's leading the team in receptions this year. Let me repeat that. Leading the team in RECEPTIONS. Yeah but he fucking sucks and can't catch. Come on now. Do you want a little perspective. Jace Amaro is 8th in the NFL in receptions for Tight Ends. AND HE ONLY HAS STARTED 2 GAMES. If Amaro started from day 1, he would have about 34 receptions right now and be 2nd in receptions for TE's....AS A ROOKIE. Jet fans are fucking retarded sometimes. You have a dude that is already playing like a Top 10 TE as a rookie, and somehow he is a bust. Just fucking retarded.
Meanwhile David Nelson has 7 catches for 54 yards for the entire season, and Kerley for the 5th time this year only catches 2 balls or less, but Amaro is the problem. This is why Jet fans aren't allowed to have nice things. Everyone begs for a great offensive weapon in the draft. We get one. He plays well. Still not good enough though. Amaro is 4th out of all the rookies in the league in receptions, yet he is the issue on offense. Yup makes sense to me.
his catch rate was higher than most TE's too. hes not perfect, i wouldn't expect him to be, but hell he's off to a good start. hes on pace for over 60 receptions and over 500 yards receiving, thats not nothing if you're a TE. but I guess because he occasionally drops a few passes he's awful.
You know who has led the league in drops over the last 4 seasons. Brandon Marshall. I am pretty sure every single Jet fan alive would take Brandon Marshall on their team right now.
That's exciting - WE HAVE THE WORST SET OF RECEIVERS IN THE LEAGUE. He does. And he can't. He's also tied for 4th in the league (for all receivers and backs, not just TEs) in drops. That's tremendous. And he has the second highest percentage of drops per targets (approx 11%) of any player with more than 20 receptions (after Victor Cruz).
And like I said. Who gives a shit. Would you rather have Amaro out there catching 4 - 10 balls per game, with a drop here and there, or Nelson / Salas / Kerley, who don't catch anything at all. If we are even talking about him in the conversation about anything with guys like Victor Cruz then he is doing something right.
Amaro is playing like a first round pick TE imo whoever thinks he sucks just compare his production to eric ebron and austin seferian jenkins lol. Both taken ahead of him the dude will be a great player.
This. A lot of criticism of our drafts here would be tempered if people just looked at other team s drafts to see the true ratio of bad to good picks on all teams. That is not to say that we have all the talent we need, or that Idzik did a good job. Its just that we need some perspective when we criticize the drafts
Amaro can't catch? When was the last time the Jets saw a 10 catch game before 2 weeks ago? The drop last night was pathetic though.
And that's why we're sitting at 1-6. This team needs as many high draft picks as it can get. Hopefully a GM who knows how to use them too.
N Not sure about that. Our lack of talent here is a direct function of our drafts having lower yields. You look around and you have rookie corners and wide receivers making splashes ( from round 1 Kyle fuller to round 6 EJ Gaines for STL and Lamarcus Joyner). Given how devoid of talent our roster is coupled with the quantity of our draft picks, we should have arguably be seeing more impact players from Idzik's tenure.
I despised the Dee Milliner pick (I"m on record here the night of the draft), he is weak and oft-injured, and how many dbacks are you going to draft? We've drafted a ton and our secondary sucks! Stephen Hill was an OK pick, he has all the physical tools he just busted, at least they attempted to draft an offensive player higher than the fourth round. He didn't have enough experience actually catching a football in college before coming to the NFL, he only had 40 something catches in college. All teams miss on players in the draft, but the Jets are making it an art form. Every time you draft a "franchise QB" and he busts it sets your team back four years. We're on our second bust QB in a row. ****oh and Amaro is going to be a stud.****
