Kellen Clemens: Could Pass Ramsey on Depth Chart Kellen Clemens: Could Pass Ramsey on Depth Chart RotoWire.com Staff - RotoWire.com Friday, October 6, 2006 Update: Clemens took reps with the second team Thursday and may be on the verge of supplanting Patrick Ramsey for the backup job, according to the Newark Star-Ledger. Recommendation: In a perfect world the Jets don't want Clemens or Ramsey to play this year, given how good Chad Pennington has looked the first month. But it's pretty clear Clemens has a future in this city, while Ramsey may not. http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/news?slug=rotowire-ellenlemensouldassam&prov=rotowire&type=lgns
yea, same here, ramsey sucks...if he couldnt put up huge numbers under spurrier, who just chucked it around, then no chance he is a salvageble QB
Wilst I'm glad for Kellen should this happen , I'm sad for Ramsey as a person. He should try the raiders.
Yeah...If we could try to trade him that would be too good to be true. I don't see any team taking an interest in him though.
Another dumb move. kellen is not ready to play yet, ramsey isn't great but at leas he has some experience. I'll be shocked if Kellen comes in if Chad gets hurt.
If Chad proves he can stay healthy, I would look to trade Clemens for a 1 or a 2. Ramsey is a perfect back up and we have a developmental QB in Smith on the team. If we have 4 or 5 years to build a winner around Chad we should do it. Clemens will end up being another Jordan. We might as well get some value for him. He is to short to be a big time NFL QB anyway.
I like the thinking but I wouldn't consider trading him yet, maybe next offseason or after next season.
I think it depends too on Chad's contract status... after this year is done, if he stays healthy the whole year and has a relatively successful season, he will want his old contract back or something similar to it, and the Jets FO may not be willing to fork that over when they have Clemens developing... not that I am advocating this, but it is often how the NFL works.
Allow me to preface this by saying I love Chad but did not think he would be able to come back and be as effective as he's been. However... This is a ridiculous comment. Chad has shown he cannot stay healthy. Even if he plays all 16 games this year, a big IF, its always going to be a question. How do you determine if someone is able to stay healthy? Has Carson Palmer proved it? Has Trent Green proved it? Has Michael Vick proved it? My point is, s%^t happens in the NFL and its tough to predict when one of those freak things are going to happen. Aside from the injury question. Chad is 30 years old. He has shoulder thats had to be repaired TWICE. To say that trading Kellen Clemens is the right move right now is insanity. He's a rookie, which means he's young and still learning the subtleties of the pro game. Plus, is anyone here privy to practice and classroom sessions. We have no clue how this guy has progressed. The only thing we do know, is that he is on the verge of unseating a former starter in NFL. This seems like a good thing to me. Trading him at this point just makes no sense, unless we have a shot at a big-time Qb in the draft (Brady Quinn) or Brad Smith has shown he will be a more effective pro QB. Overall, I don't think this argument is very well though out.
And you know this how? It's been over a month since the preseason. Unless you've been to practice recently, none of us know exactly how he's done. For all we know, he could have made tremendous improvement in the past month in practice. Another dumb move? Why? Because he might have been outplaying a veteran? Please. One thing this coaching staff has shown is that they're not hesitant to play rookies if they've shown promise in practice. We've seen Leon Washington and Brad Smith get rewarded with more playing time based on their production in games and practice. Why is it dumb for the same to said of Kellen?
The guy wasn't good in preseason, I don't care how much he has progressed in practice he's not ready to play and ti would be foolish to bring him in after Chad UNLESS we are out of the race by the time he comes in. A backup RB and backup WR is a little different than having to play QB. There is a reason very few rookie QBs have success.
Let me rephrase. I think Clemens is to small to ever be a really top pro QB against a big time D. I would prefer we move on as fast as possible.
Newsflash...NONE of our QB's were good in preseason. Chad wasn't even that good in preseason. Does this offense resemble the one they showed in preseason? No. You can't base it off of what happened in preseason. I thought you were smarter than that.
Chad is an experienced starter who knows what the reg season is like, we were just trying to get him through preseason healthy. His performance didn't matter, Clemens has never be in a reg season NFL game and struggled at preseason speed. He's not ready. If we are out of it I say put him in and let him take his lumps but if we are in the race it would b foolish to go to Clemens.
Even if Chad stays heathly this year, he still is a proven liability, Clemens will be starting as the Jets QB within 2-3 years.
He may be but after seeing this kid in preseason, I just feel he is way to short to be a big time player. He probably will be decent because he's smart and has a quick release. I just think he's size is a huge liability against a big time D.
