The only vet QB's I'd trade for wont be available.... Now I wouldn't be upset if we kicked the tires on AJ Mccaron..... Or Aaron Murray,or a young QB who could develop..... But not a Vet.....
Wow this is what we stoop to Jets fans? Looking for a savior in a back up qb. This is a sad day in Jets history
Didnt want to start a new thread for this idea so figured Id just bump this one. What are some opinions on trading a 2nd or 3rd rounder for Jay Cutler? Bears fans seem to be getting fed up with him and that locker room has some friction in it too. So staying with the solution of not drafting a QB early, is Cutler worth going after?
It would he the greatest Era in Jets history if we traded for Mallett from the Texans and he turned out to be the answer. Throwing him against the Pats twice a year (especially once Brady is gone) would be gold.
I like Mariota, the guy from Mich St. and the guy from Colorado State at QB. With our luck we'll end up with Jameis Winston. Blah.
No to trading for a QB just a few weeks ago Kirk Cousins looked great now he's been benched. Take a look at Locker, Bradford, and Hoyer in FA. Try and draft Mariota if it's even possible.
I don't think they'll re-sign him unless he's great. Considering his game and his age I don't think he can stay healthy an entire season including this year. I'm not sure how many games he will survive (and then is it back to Geno?). For one thing Geno doesn't have any leadership qualities. So I could see them signing a Matt Moore or even a Hasselbeck (if available and he wants to start). If the Jets had Matt Hasselbeck this year we would have won some games. Even a guy like Chad Henne isn't terrible. If Idzik is still around he has to choose the right guy. (The Bills obviously did with Orton). Not all of his signings have been horrible. Jason Babbin can still play plus there are other low to medium priced guys who could contribute. He thought Patterson was one (and he should have been) but the guy turned out to be an asshole.
So what you really need is a guy who can move the ball without turning it over. He doesn't need a big arm or have to be great. In other words a competent game manager like Alex Smith. You don't have to spend your whole salary cap on the Qb position. Put that money into the offensive line. A guy like Hasselbeck as your starter with maybe Geno as your backup. That is unless Geno cops an attitude and really isn't a team player. In that case keep Simms and draft another developing Qb.
Word on Conner Cook is that he is not ready and is being advised to stay one more year. Having watched a few of their games this year I would say I agree. He seems to have some good tools to build on but could use a little more experience. I definitely have this concern about any of the underclassmen QBs that are being projected as 2015 draft picks.
I'm not worried about the guys coming out of college. But I am worried about the staff's ability to develop talent at qb.
I wouldn't want to develop another rookie Qb. It's too big of a crap shoot. What this team needs isn't a developmental guy at that position, but a leader who knows what he's doing so this team can win now. I would draft on the OL and of course sign a veteran cornerback.
