I just hope he stays healthy and Jets make the playoffs. Why are we talking about individual awards this early in the season?
Mack was a beast, idk if Pryor gets it over him. Mack will prob have a crap-ton of tackles and sacks because no one else on that Raiders defense is truly impressive. That said too early.
So would picking 2 straight DROY's in the draft shut Idzik haters up for good or am I thinking crazy?
If he had that pick six he would have put himself ahead of the rest..... for one week at least, let's see how the season plays out.
This. And no, it's not too early to start the DROY watch since we have a potential candidate for it. You guys that never want to talk about anything really kill me. Why even join a board if all you're ever going to say is "whoa...slow down...lets play a full season before we talk about that".
It may be rare for a safety to win DROY, but it's pretty damn rare for a 3-4 DE to win DROY as well. I liked some things I saw because what he did on the field was actually much more impressive than what the stat line reads. I do wish he had the pick but there is a lot of promise there. I also wish I'd gotten to see him lay somebody out.
GGB, just a guess but maybe the NFL's announced 'crackdown' on some of the CB/WR hand-fighting could've entered into the Jets' thinking as it pertained to Dennard. First off, he doesn't have elite 4.3 speed and while he was touted as being a "physical press" type corner that Rex supposedly loves (a la Revis-who did have 4.35 speed), in this case that was also a polite way of describing Dennard's "clutchy-grabby" style that some feared would draw flags at the NFL level. Case in point was last year's Michigan State-Notre Dame game when Dennard (and the Spartan secondary) were unmercifully flagged for PI and holding throughout the game. And remember that the consenus in many mocks had DD going #10 to the CB-strapped Lions, his in-house (Mich. St.) collegiate pedigree notwithstanding....and yet look where Dennard dropped to. Apparently Rex wasn't the only one not sold on what was generally thought of by many of the 'experts' as a pre-#18 pick.
Pryor is on a lot of pundits' radars because of his preseason, so a couple flash plays like his tackle for loss can't hurt. Keep in mind how little the Raiders were able to do offensively, so our players didn't get as many chances to show their stuff. I expect him to be more productive in the weeks to come.
Next week against Aaron Rogers should be a good test for Pryor . I feel like he has the speed and instinct to effectively break up passes on plays where there is safety help over the top whereas our previous safties get there just fast enough to take a bad angle tackle the guy 20 yards later
