okay...(this will be my last thread about the Colts game) so maybe it was the hashish, but I was sitting around thinking of the game a day or two ago, when I had an epiphany. It seemed more than interesting how the beloved Jets did so many interesting and aggressive playcalling. While I think the root of this lied in giving the team the best chance to win, I am almost sure Mangini realized that his team playing the Indy Colts would be the one that the rest of the NFL would be paying the most attention to. With the exception of the New England division games, they are the best team on our schedule. Not to mention the most dynamic offensive team currently in the NFL. The coaching staff surely had to realize this, and planned to show many many different situational calls, not ONLY to win the game, but to get inside the head of every coaching staff of teams they are going to play, not only this year, but years to come. It was a chance to show opposing coaches what these young guys, Mangini and Schotty can do, or will do. Now, a good coach will HAVE to consider that the Jets might possibly kick an onside in any given quarter, at any time. That we CAN have success on 4th getting the 1st (that brad smith option was lovely). Not to mention bust back a kickoff for a TD. If I am right and there was a premeditated consciousness of the intra-league attention this game brought the Jets when considering some of the most enthusiastic playcalling we've seen as Jets fans in years, the coaching staff was a complete success this Sunday. :jets:
Great post, makes a lot of sense. If teams look at the film from this game they're going to realize they can not take us lightly and that we have many creative ways of making the best of our talent, even if it is limited. While that may push a team to prepare harder, it's better to get into their head then to let them walk into our house (or theirs) thinking they are going to walk all over us.
I see what you are saying, but I think it is less about getting in the heads of opposing coaches as it is about winning the individual game. Regardless of how you do it, beating the Colts sends a wakeup call to everyone around the league. I also think opposing coaches are not focused on anyone except their next opponent...they just don't have time to watch NFL Primetime.
So is the game better played like a chess match or UFC Unleashed? Or a combination of the two? At least I don't think the the coaching staff is arrogant enough to call an onsides kick like Martz did when we were getting whooped by the Rams...but mind games are a different story, and it makes the game a lot more interesting than what we had to endure for the last few years
We'd all love for them to have won, but the point I made is irregardless of that. What matters is that they were successful in those key plays that are going to put doubt/worry into opponents heads. That onside kick was simply beautiful, and they were what...1/2 on 4th down conversions. They did pretty good in that respect.
I think it's the hashish. OK.... but I think this CS was just coaching to win this game. To think they were doing things to confuse the coaching staffs of future opponents doesn't compute for me. The fallout of such play calls could affect the game plans of future opponents, but to think they did these things for that purpose in... well.... I'm goin with the hashish thing. Man, I aint seen hash in twenty years.... PM me! LOL!
I wouldn't think Mangini would mind if the rest of his opponents take this team lightly. The Herm days are over, this team has an aggressive CS with more creativity than we have seen since the Charlie Weiss O.
where did you get yer hash? Just kidding. I don't your points at all. Keep smokin' and churnin' out the philosophy, bra.
When I smoked hash in HS I could barely walk home afterward, much less think about football. I agree that the Jets are now a much harder team to prepare for than when Cap't. Conservative was our coach. TBTF
that's the RGB continuum in the avatar, relevant to color theory, as used in web-design, and the like. As opposed to CMYK, for print graphic design. I don't puff stuff at all.
................ Tell me about it. Nothin like a Nice bowl of clay to knock you off your senses... Ah the memories.....
I was up last night smoking a few bowls of hash when I had an epiphany regarding yesterdays game. Let's suppose Mangini knew there was no way we were beating the Jags and instead of coming up with an intresting and diverse game plan to make it close, he intentionally put out a plan to fail and show the upcomming Dolphins, Browns and Lions nothing of our real intentions? I call it the the we suck don't bother game planning for us theory. If I am right and there was a premeditated consciousness of Miami, Cleveland, Detriot game planning for us based on this game, than running some of the most boring and unispired play calling we've seen as Jets fans in years, the coaching staff was a complete success this Sunday. It could be the hash? Thoughts?
