Because thereally is less space everything gets tighter. There is less room for error passes have to be perfect. defense of schemes change they use the small to compact the defense you know the game football.

If I have this correct we should stick with Geno until the season is all but lot then put in Vick? That makes a lot of sense.

we lose this one we are more than likely going to be 1-6 this is a huge game for the Jets.

i know there is less space to work with in the end zone. That goes without saying. I'm just not buying the idea that the red zone issues are all on Geno and that's it. It's the OC's job to call the best possible plays based on the situation. Not running Ivory, Powell or Johnson in the end zone and calling pass plays is on MM. Running Geno on a designed run in the end zone is on MM. Stupid trick plays is on MM.

However Geno staring down Nelson IS on Geno. Forcing throws is on Geno. That's execution. However many young QB's struggle in the red zone. Geno will get better with experience.

Sorry to be so incorrect about Smiths passing percentage.

To bad with that 63% completion rate we are 1-2.

Oh well ....guess something in the air causes Jets to lose.

that 1-2 isn't just on geno. he takes alot of blame for the bears game but he was way down the list of what went wrong against g.b.

Need to change QB's then because Geno can't play from under center

Doubt if that happens... Geno has always been more comfortable out of the gun.. i guess it helps him read the field better that way. Ima WVU fan i've always watched Geno he's almost strictly shotgun... seems like the jets are gonna work with it. But i agree at least on run plays he should be behind center, gives the RB more momentum hitting the hole too.

Geno sucks point blank period i watched Vick move the ball up and down the field with ease in pre season better than Geno,Martys play calling has always sucked in the redzone he calls to many pass plays instead of feeding the backs. Vick should be your starter ,geno should be ready next season. Marty called stupid plays when he was with my team with Foles and Vick in the redzone and it wont change

We cant have that dolphin fan mentality. We need to win a game and feel good . The rest takes care of itself but I think RR should put Geno on a leash cuz why else have 3 Good RB's

It would've been better to start the season wit Vick cuz Geno looks like what he is, a 2nd year QB.Gotta cut down on the TO cuz the pick 6 at the begining of a hair pulling monday night, was brutal to watch.

    lol

Please explain how benching Geno for sucking cocks sets the team back FIVE YEARS? What a load of shit.

Did moving on from Kellen Clemens also set us back 5 years?

Next we will hear is that benching Smith will set off the apocalypse.

If the CS is not going to bench Smith no matter what, why did they sign Vick? They could have brought Tebow back for all the difference it would make.

This call for Vick is hilarious. He's a turnover machine as well, and he is going to get hurt early on. He's just as crazy of a runner (he's better, but he is more likely to get hurt).

He has thrown for 60% once in his career. He just isnt that good and he has fallen victim to backup quarterback syndrome. He's the most loved player, until he has to play.

But even after all that, if Geno plays like he did against Chicago again, I guess it has to be considered.

Yeah, Idzik should be fired for signing such a washed up has been turnover machine.

    But seriously...

A turnover machine? Smith has a career interception ratio of 4.6%. Vick's career rating is 2.8%, and in Philly it was 2.5%. Gee that's just above half of Smith's interception rate. In fact in 2013 Vick's rate was only 2.1%. So if Vick is a turnover machine compared to Smith, what does that make Smith? A double dose turnover machine perhaps?

Vick takes care of the ball far better than Smith does.

Geno is doing ok. He is the key to the Jets future. Any talk about replacing him is designed to get a headline. He still does not have great weapons but he is making progress. Taking his temperature after every game is a waste of time.

I also notice interesting stats for those who say Smith has shown noticeable improvement.

First of all his ypa passing is the same as it was season long last year, at 6.9. No improvement there.

His passing Td percentage is 2.9% compared to 2.7% last year, or slightly higher.

Meanwhile his ypc on rushes is down, from last year's 5.1 to 4.2, which imo is significant (I believe opponents aer more and better prepared for him taking off this year).

Last year Smith had 8 fumbles in 16 games, this year 2 in 3 games.

One stat that shows improvement is his sack rate, which is down from 8.8 last year to 5.5 this year.

And of course the Jets overall were 8-8 last year and 1-2 right now.

By those measures, it is hard to see how there has been any material improvement in Smith's production.

I'm probably one of the bigger Geno fans on the site and I'm really optimistic about his growth and what he can become. That being said, I give him 2 more games to right the ship. Mind you, he can still keep his job if the jets lose both, but if he blatantly hurts their chance of winning in both games with ill timed turnovers (like he's being doing) I think a switch is made before the Broncos game. Though, I find it unlikely that he makes crippling mistakes in 4 consecutive games, and he deserves the bench if that happens.

Never said Vick didnt take care of the ball better. I never said Geno was the superior player. I said people are clammoring for Vick because he is the backup QB. Everyone loves the backup QB, until they have to play. We have 13 games left. Vick hasnt been able to play more than 13 games in a season since 2006 (three years in jail).

I said he turns the ball over a lot, which he does. He's had 10 or more fumbles 3 of the last 4 years. He isnt as turnover prone as rookie Geno Smith, but he still turns the ball over too much for a 12 year vet. I also said that he gets hurt a lot, which he does. And quite honestly, he's only going to get worse. He had some solid years in Philly with some outstanding receivers and backs. He wont have that in NY. He isnt getting any younger and he isnt getting any better. He wont have anywhere near the offensive support he had in Philly.

I'm not totally against putting Vick in, but one shitty game against the Bears isnt going to make me dump Geno. If Geno throws three INT's against Detroit, than I would be ok moving to Vick. I just dont like the idea that Vick is the savior. He's going to be playing behind the same shitty LG, with the same mediocre receivers.

A point to be made that no one is bringing up, Geno's stats are up across the board from last year. He's actually improving. Better completion %, on pace for more TD's and less INT's. On pace for more passing and rushing yards. That game against Chicago pissed me off, but I dont want to lose sight of the bigger picture. We have an improving year 2 QB.

Edit- I guess people are bringing it up, lol.

Geno makes 4 or 5 bad decisions a game in the 35-odd dropbacks he makes. He makes a couple of real doozies in each game. That's not acceptable for a starting QB at this point but it's also not that far removed from being a decent QB.

Every QB makes a couple of throws a game they wish they could have back. Geno makes double that. If he cuts down his mistakes by half then suddenly he's an acceptable QB and maybe even a good one. He's got to do this though. He doesn't have an endless number of mistakes to make before the Jets decide to put Vick in for a look.

To people pointing at tension between Rex and Idzik on Geno vs Vick, really there isn't likely to be much there. If the Jets stick with Geno through thick and thin that will be because both Rex and Idzik think it is the right thing to do. If they go to Vick at some point the same thing will be true.

If Rex is pressured to stick with Geno then the likelihood of him getting fired as a result is much lower. Idzik has a well-earned rep as a guy who will make the unpopular choice if has to. Sticking with Rex after 8-8 is going to be one of those choices if it comes to it.

And how do you like that defense? That's a joint venture between Rex and Idzik also.
