People forget what a big deal it was at the time.

    The Jets stepped up.

We played a pivotal role in establishing the modern day NFL.

    For better or worse.

How can you say that? Idzik only finished replacing the scouts after this year's draft- there's hardly any basis on which to judge them at this point.

He fired half the scouts after the 2013 draft, and almost all of the remaining ones after this year's draft. The group we have now, we don't know how good or bad they are. I think we ought to wait until they have maybe 2 draft classes under their belt before we declare them to be the league's worst.

(When a new GM comes in, the old GM's scouts have to stay for the next draft since they already did all the work. The 2013 class was done purely using Tanny's scouts, for example.)

Edit: Replied before reading the replies and seeing that 'Byz had already said something similar.

I can understand drafting an injured player if the Jets were picking 32nd and a guy like Jadeveon fell b/c he missed the last half of his Senior year with a bruised penis, but picking 9th overall? I think Idzik should find a player without a history of injuries.

I realize none of Milliner's dings were life threatening, but jeez he had like 374 injuries his junior year. Where there's smoke there's fire.

In a violent sport like football, you'd be hard pressed to find a player who hasn't had an injury of some sort or even multiple injuries. We focus on our players because they are our players, other teams have the same issues.

I admit that teams often make picks with position salary in mind (like when the Raiders took a kicker in the first round, etc.) but they will still take the best talent possible.

It's unbelievable that people think they can know what a his drafting ability is, not to mention no single person is responsible for a draft pick or draft class. On top of that, his draft classes have looked pretty good on the whole. I know you're not the one I need to tell, but seriously.

-Dee is a CB, and 9 out of 10 rookie CB's struggle to some degree. He's had enough good games to show promise.
-Sheldon is obviously a standout player
-Geno was forced to start last year even though he shouldn't have, but he is showing tremendous strides
-Bohanon is quality fullback. Granted not the most important position in the world, but for a 7th round pick he has been very good value.

The players this year have seen way too little game time to even begin judging them.

I'll be the first to admit it's even too early to judge the 2013 class, and sure it's possible that most of them could end up poor over the course of their first 3 years, but it doesn't really look like that's going to happen.

I'm okay with the Miliner pick but the one that still blows my mind is the McDougle pick. Guy played 3 games and wasn't even that good to be a 3rd rounder. Only time will tell but.. it was questionable then and it is very questionable now.

Yeah let's just eliminate guys from our draft board because if injuries. College guys never recover. This philosophy worked soooo well in the early 80's. Passing on Anthony Munoz so they could grab Lam Jones then three years later taking a 100% healthy Ken O'Brien over an immobile injured knee Dan Marino worked out so well. Who needs a Hall of Fame LT and QB if they actually were hurt in college?

So you think the Jets are intentionally drafting inferior players so they wont have to pay them when the time comes?

There are darksiders and I understand their pain, I really do. But this is one of the most ridiculous theory's I've ever heard.

I was told he wasn't injury prone lol

To be fair the Jets probably (stupidly) rushed him back from this one for obvious reasons and voila, he gets another injury trying to compensate.

It's not so much avoiding drafting them, it's counting on injury-prone guys to be your entire depth chart at one particular position that's the problem.

I'm saying the Jets are watching future dollars as closely as present dollars. I don't expect you to understand that as it doesn't fit with your blue skies approach to anything Jet related. Idzik is doing what any smart GM is doing. Not overpaying and not painting the team into a corner where they'd either have to pay big or crash and burn. We're sitting on a ton of cap money for a reason. Even after 2015, I suspect we'll still be sitting on a ton of cap money.
Thanks to the new CBA, there's a rookie cap but once that initial contract is up, don't think for a minute Idzik isn't looking at what the market will be for that player. He's gonna have to pony up for The Sons bigtime. He's not gonna have to pay a lot for say, an Amaro or a Saunders or any other lower tier guys on the roster. If he gets lucky, the low end guys will turn into decent players. If not, cut them and draft some more low end guys with "potential". The glamour positions? We don't touch them. The last guy was Sanchez and I don't see another contract like that ever happening again even if Geno turns into a really good QB. That contract burned this team and you have to wonder just how much the Jets want other high profile players either by way of FA or draft. Idzik just doesn't strike me as a splashy kinda GM and so far, he hasn't disappointed.

Then again its not a rosey pie in the sky assessment. You keep your Sunny disposition regarding the Jets, and I'll stay in "believe it when I see it" mode.

    Have a nice day..

I don't think it's that crazy a theory. If you have x amount of money for 4 players, do you get 1 a+ player and 3 d- players or 2 b+ and 2b- players?
