I think Jalen isn't playing for the same reason i questioned us drafting him.. Where does he fit besides a slot spot? He's really small but quick. He doesnt seem to be much better than kerley was at PR either.. (Which isn't good at all)
Maybe in college, but I don't buy it in the NFL. He's not just short, he's straight up small. Even on the Jets website he's listed as 164 lbs. You really want to tell me a 5'9" 164 lbs WR can get off press man coverage on time?
Desean is 1 inch taller and 10 pounds heavier. He plays more physical then Desean despite being smaller - I think on certain plays why not?
1. DeSean is significantly faster. Saunders is a 4.44 guy, DeSean is 4.35 guy, and he is shiftier at the line on top of that. DB's don't like to play press man vs DJax because if they screw up and he gets behind them, it's a TD. 4.44 isn't slow but it doesn't create the same risk of getting absolutely burned. 2. An inch or two is very import when it comes to leverage. Let some one an inch shorter than you punch you in the face, then let someone an inch taller than you punch you in the face. Guess which one hurts way more, even if they theoretically are equivalent in strength? 3. If you really wanted to use him as the flanker on a quick slant you might be able to get a completion, but you're much more likely to get a completion to David Nelson on a slant who can box out the defender. At 5'9" Saunders needs more separation to be open on a go route as well, since a 6' or 6'1" DB like Milliner can trail and still get up and make a play on the ball since Saunders has a lower "high point". 4. His smaller catch radius means the QB has to be more accurate, which means a throw closer to the LoS will be quite a bit easier to complete.
1. Saunders is just as shifty, he may not be as quick but the kid is fast in the open field and can get seperation - check the tape against Alabama and his battle against Haha-Dix. You will be surprised. 2. He maybe smaller by an inch, but Saunders is more physical at the LOS then Desean. He has pretty decent technique coming out of college. The kid can take a hit as well. Plus you are forgetting Saunders route running ability which is amazingly nifty. 3. I'm talking about using him to get vertical not slants, we already have physical receivers for that, we need to take the top off the defense. Saunders could more than likely get by on double moves and running crisp routes which can he can. This guy needs a chance to showcase his talents.
why do I the horrible feeling that 3 years from now we'll look back at the 2014 draft and say it was a disaster?
I would classify 2010 as a disaster. (KW, Vlad, John Conner and Joe 'puke' McKnight). I would hope 2014 doesn't match that mess...
The JETS need to get Saunders out is space on quick screens, drag routes, and some reverses for goodness sake. Let him get some looks from the slot and put Kerley on the outside for some plays.
The Jets needed to get Chris Johnson out in space on screens and designed dumpoffs when the Packers were blanketing our receivers. I'm starting to think that our OC problems aren't directly attributable to the OC. But hey, maybe one of those retarded Vick plays where Vick doesn't even seem to care that he's on the field will end up working one of these days.
It was pretty telling when he didn't get any looks after Decker went out. It's also scary that this guy was rated the highest on our draft board of the three receivers we took this year. We now have 2 WR spots solely being used for KR/WR and David Nelson has yet to get any semblance of separation the last two games. Brian Costello @BrianCoz Jets worked out LBs Pat Angerer, Desmond Bishop and WRs Tiquan Underwood and David Gettis and QB Pat Devlin, per source. #nyj My guess is Idzik makes a move. If Decker is out, Smith will be lacking for weapons and i don't think Saunders is the answer, yet. I remember reports were that he was lighting up camp, to, which makes the usage outside of the 4th preseason game bizarre.
It will depend on how you look at it. I think both Pryor and Amaro have high floors and have a slim chance of being busts. At the very least they will be solid contributors. The rest of the draft have very high "disaster" potential with exception to maybe Dozier. Some, especially the Idzik lemmings, would probably consider that a success. Others might think it's pretty putrid considering the number of picks and the depth of the draft.
Gettis I really don't understand. He hasn't played a game since 2010. Underwood I could see though. He was a 37 yard per game receiver on the Bucs last year and his average catch was 18 yards. He's extremely fast and his sole job is to stretch the field. Essentially he would play the Steven Hill role, except Underwood actually has decent hands. He would at the very least open the field up vertically which in itself is something we need. The Pats brought him in during training camp, but Brady can't hit a pass over 15 yards anymore so he's pretty much useless there.
Rounds 3-7 could be for all I know but I guarantee we nabbed at least 2 long term starters in Pryor and Amaro
We were coming off the afc title game, wasn't Wilson the 28th pick? Or 30th or something,he was barely a first rounder anyway.Mcknight was great on special teams and wasn't a complete bust
