September 13, 2007, Bill Belichick fined the maximum $500,000 and the Pats fined $250,000 and a first round draft choice for spying on the Jets in the September 9 game. http://www.cbsnews.com/news/patriots-coach-fined-750k-for-cheating/ Wish we had THOSE tapes. _
Mismanged situation. Destroying (and I'm pretty sure burning was the method) the tapes just left the door open. IF there was nothing useful/bad on them, then why not let everyone see them?
Wow 2007. Seems like yesterday... Now that I'm reminiscing...remember Mangina ? What a complete 180 from him to Rex
Given time Mangina might have become a mini-Belichick but Woody didn't like him and wasn't willing to wait, especially with our very own Rex Ryan putting his name out there. I think Woody got this one right.
It was a bit of a shock to me to see the date on that. It doesn't seem like 7 years ago. It's been a decade since the Pats won a superbowl.
wow. seems like just yesterday they were blowing teams away. The more time that goes by with the superstar QBs not getting it done (manning, manning, brady, rogers) and with teams like 2nd year QB Wilson winning it, the less we'll hear that having a superstar QB is an absolute must to getting a ring. Other formulas might work just as well in the long run. haha now watch....fucking brady will win the next 3.
Agreed. Not that I had any respect for him before this, but Belichick and Brady are forever tarnished in mny mind.
Not only in your mind but in the minds of football fans everywhere other than New England. When the book is written on them, "Spygate" is going to be in the very first paragraph and in Beli's case, the very first sentence. It's his legacy more than the championships. _
I agree Mangini was never really given a chance and given a quick ticket out of town after being forced into letting Favre play injured and chucking up pick after pick in 2008. I think Mangini had the potential to be a good NFL coach especially given all he had learned about how being press conference dull and candid about your moves generally works in your favor. The one thing that really stuck out to me with Mangini was his inability to finish games. His philosophy against the 2 or 4 minute drill was to play 15 yards off the receiver with virtually only 4 or 5 defenders within ten yards of the line of scrimmage. It just opened the flood gates for teams to pick us apart underneath and kept some bad teams in the games in the morning 4th. Always made me think the Jets were the only franchise in the NFL content with giving up 3 consecutive 10 yard WR screen gains without ever adjusting.
