don't underestimate the fact that it is early in the season and the ravens NEED an experienced back NOW. If it was the offseason, I'd agree with you. I bet a team in need would cough up a 3rd rounder for Powell right now and were I the jets I would not trade him for less.
We aren't getting a 3rd rounder for a running back. They've been devalued. That said, BAL is carrying 7 WRs with a few young guys with serious potential where a trade of Bilal, who we are probably not going to pay much to keep in free agency, could net us picks and / or a player. Sounds like a win/ win to me.
I wouldn't trade powell at this point unless someone made an offer we couldn't refuse. he could end up being an important cog very quickly and he's a solid known quantity.
Well maybe, but the Ravens aren't out of conference. If the Jets let Powell go free agent at the end of the year he's likely going to figure into the comp pick equation. Somebody is going to pick him up on a 3+ year deal. That makes the idea of getting a certain pick out of him less attractive, particularly when he plays a high attrition position well enough to give a couple of hundred carries too if push comes to shove.
Nobody would give a high draft pick up for Powell. You could get a 5th at best. He's a quality back but there isn't one part of his game that's great. Nobody is giving the Jets a 4th round pick for him in my opinion. He doesn't run the ball and pick up YAC like Ivory and doesnt have the speed of a guy like Johnson. And i'm just comparing him to guys on our team. IMO it's probably not even worth trading him for a pick, it's probably best to hold onto him for depth, especially when you consider the fact that Ivory has a tendency to miss time. If somebody wanted to offer a player for player trade (rare) then it might make more sense, particularly if its in an area where the Jets need help.
Powell provides valuable depth at a position that has a high injury rate. Jets need to keep him and if he leaves in the off-season, so be it.
the ravens aren't trading a 3rd round pick for powell. They had 1 RB last night carry 20+ times for nearly 100 yards, another scat back showing burst, and have a phsyical rookie 3rd on the depth chart.. It ain't happening they have no need to trade for Bilal Powell to only further muddy the waters there. Plus there is NO reason for us to trade him. If CJ or CI go down, we have a guy we can plug in who we know is a servicable back with a high floor. It would be senseless. If we wanted to get rid of Powell we would have done so in the offseason.
The trade deadline is week 8 I believe. If Powell ain't getting much action and our offense is still below average, then make the trade. It'll depend week by week but to trade him sooner than later probably wouldn't be smart.
Couldn't the Ravens just sign Daryl Richardson off the Jets practice squad without giving up anything? I'd hate that, but aren't practice squad players open to all teams?
I wouldn't like to do this trade. I think Bilal is undervalued currently...so we wouldn't be getting a fair shake out of it. They would likely offer us a pick not a player (probably a 5th+) unless they are considering a conditional 4th. In either case...I think they are happy with there new starting running back Justin Forsett. They also like Pierce. IF....they were to offer a player....not sure where we would need one. I can't see anyone on their team that would make me salivate over Antonio Allen starting. I like the WRs the jets have. Jacoby isn't that much better than any guy we got already. Offensive line is not 100% consistent...but good enough that the roster is set this year. TE is full position.....DL is good. LBs are promising....Same for safeties. Unless they are willing to dish out Upshaw or Dumervil (which they wouldn't do). Bilal for Asa or Webb wouldn't be horrible....but I think they could use Bilal more than another CB. Remember....Bilal is the most complete back on the team.
