While what you say about MM is true, he's not the only quality OC who runs the WCO in the NFL. That said, I don't want to lose either, but if it had to be one, I'd prefer it to be MM. Vick is not the answer for even the short term. I really like Mornhinweg, but I'd get rid of him before Geno and wouldn't even have to think twice about it. Quality QBs are much harder to find than quality OCs. Besides,I strongly believe that Geno is going to develop into a topnotch starter and be the Jets' starting QB for the next 10 years, and would develop into a quality starting QB with any competent OC and offensive system (that leaves Sparano and Schottenheimer out). I think he would flourish under Darrell Bevell and Chip Kelly to name two, and I 'm sure there are other OC and systems in the NFL where he'd flourish. In addition, our QB Coach was the OC in Miami and I think he could offer the continuity with Geno.
Geno has to prove more at this point. MM is more valuable. If Geno becomes consistant and develops into that guy, things may change.
Not sure it's possible to answer this correctly. If Geno continues to develop then we may have found a legit franchise QB, so then the answer would clearly be keep Geno. If he doesn't then you need a proven OC with a track record in developing QBs, so it would be Marty. It's too up in the air for me to do anything other than sit on the fence. I'm discounting Vick from any consideration because he's nothing more than a short-term fix.
For those that chose Geno, think of the Decade + of genius O-Coordinators this team has had. Until Marty got here, I was starting to have have fond memories of Paul Hackett
Would you rather have Geno and Sporano or Marty and Fitzpatrick? Give me Marty. Unless you have aQB that is good enough to overcome your OC problems, I'd rather have an OC that can get the most from his roster.
This would be a good poll for Giants fans suffering with Eli Manning learning McAdoo's (apparently) too complicated WCO
Keep Marty. With good talent and a good OC, almost any QB would do well. You can't game plan for inconsistent play from your QB, you can plan around a QB'S limitations. Sanchez had talent enough, but wasn't consistent enough.
Accuracy can't be tough and Geno has it. Never seen MM picking up 1st downs with his leg when no one's open. Geno all day.
How many 2nd year great QB do you know or that exist? None. Geno is a mobile and accurate QB. Give him weapons he'd do well in most offenses.
He wouldn't do well in a Schottenheimer or Sparano offense lol. But Geno has been making the right reads he's not accurate like Rodgers but he's improving. Marty is the teacher. He's more valuable right now.
This question is basically, what do you think Geno will develop into. If you think he'll be good, he's the answer. If you think he'll be a bust, MM is the answer.
I don't buy that. I think Geno has the potential to develop into a good QB, but it depends on a lot of factors. Not least of these factors is the playbook, game planning, and tutelage of MM.
Most Qbs become great by playing in the same system for most of their career. MM is just as important to Geno as Geno is to MM. If Geno has a chance to become great it will be five years with Marty.
Like where you are going with the bold; I would change it up a bit to bring it closer to home. Which combination would we as fans have more confidence in, Geno with Sporano or Schittyheimer or Sanchez with MM?
Agenda. Sanchez is gone and he's not coming back. Just get used to it. What you're really asking here is: would you rather have Mark Sanchez or Geno Smith? That's what the poll question should have been and that poll would be overwhelmingly in favor of Smith at this point.
This is just a bad post. Being able to mention two other coaches in the whole NFL who might even be better than Marty in developing young Qb's is hardly, hardly a persuasive argument that Marty could be easily replaced. Schotty in fact is not far from an average OC despite all the criticisms of him. OC's like Marty do not grow on trees. And "strong belief"??? Really? Translate to strong hope and I can see that, but belief? Based on what? The Oakland game? You do make a decent point about Lee, but again in that context Marty is virtually essential right now because Rex knows less than some of the posters on this board do about offense, and Rex does seem to defer to Marty. It took a third try at matching an OC with Rex, and we're flat out lucky to have found Marty with it. I know you hate Rex, and so maybe that's why you don't consider this factor. Yeah, an HC with a better grasp of running the O would make someone like Marty somewhat less valuable. But as long as Ryan is the HC, the Jets absolutely need Marty as the OC. ANd not to digress but what is Kelly's track record developing NFL Qb's? Foles? IMo his development was already under way pretty much before Kelly got there. Under Marty.
