Any person with half a brain that watched the Packers in week 1 can see how we can play with them. We are pretty much Seattle LIGHT. We run the ball, we play physical d, and try to dominate both lines. The packers d is overrated with a soft dline that we can run all over. And their oline is as weak as its ever been. Plus lacy won't be 100%. Yes Rodgers, cobb, and jordy will give us fits but rex and co can slow them down and we will be right in this game. I expect us to win.
Only quoting fer yucks,,,, My take is that if we can find a groove week 6 forward, we can put the scare into a lot of teams. This team is still learning who they are.
A win is a win is a win. I'll take it 100% of the time. Always room for improvement. The O was decent today. Geno looked good. IMHO that INT was a bit of a mistake on his part. Woodson made a GREAT play and that's obvious, but Geno should have never thrown that ball. He also has to be quicker throwing the ball away and to take care of it when he's on the move. But other than that, he looked pretty good for opening day. Our D was outstanding. I would like to see us get to the QB a bit more, but we flushed Carr out a few times, which is always good. I did love that we didn't give too much YAC like we did a lot last season. My biggest negatives from today were the penalties and the playcalling. Have to be better next week in GB. If we can get in rhythm, we can beat them in Cheeseland.
I don't think it was as bad as you are insinuating. The Raiders were doing everything they could to protect Carr, mostly by calling plays with screens that got the ball out of his hands quick. The times he had to look downfield, our d line chased him out of the pocket, sacked him, or batted the ball down. I'm not saying our boys were playing top end talent, but I think they did a great job shading the opponent in front of them.
Lol I'm watching SNF and a Denver player hits Luck exactly like Pace hit Carr. And no roughing the passer was called............
NBC Sports has a good take on the game. Jets are sloppy, but not sloppy enough to lose to Raiders Posted by Josh Alper on September 7, 2014, 4:06 PM EDT There are a lot of weeks when turning the ball over twice, committing 11 penalties and taking yourself out of scoring position because of mental mistakes will cost you football games. Sunday wasn’t one of those days for the Jets. They did their best to shoot themselves in the foot on many occasions, but the Raiders weren’t able to generate enough offense to make them pay for it in a 19-14 Jets victory. Oakland may be left to wonder what might have been if they had let Derek Carr start throwing the ball down the field a bit earlier in the contest. Carr hit on his first seven passes, but the Raiders kept things very simple offensively for most of the first three quarters. The Jets defense had a lot to do with that, of course, but the Raiders saw some late success picking on the Jets corners and a James Jones touchdown with 1:21 to play raised hope for a last minute comeback. The Jets recovered an onside kick, though, and that was that. All of the sloppiness should infuriate Rex Ryan because it came at the expense of a strong overall performance. The Raiders couldn’t run the ball at all, the Chris Johnson/Chris Ivory tandem had 170 yards on 23 carries and Geno Smithcompleted his final 12 throws of the game. Smith’s performance was the most maddening of all because it was quite good for most of the game — 23-28 for 221 yards and 38 rushing yards — with two turnovers and a bad sack when the team was in field goal range. The Jets will have to keep the good while cleaning up the bad as their schedule gets much tougher. The Raiders should be encouraged by Carr’s outing and give him more to do in future weeks because the team looked its best when they put the ball in his hands. http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.co...ppy-but-not-sloppy-enough-to-lose-to-raiders/
Look, I didn't say that to make us sound like we were terrible. I'm just waiting for this supposedly beast-mode front 4 pass rush to actually show up. There were a few flashes of what could be, but I just honestly thought they would do more against a team that will probably end up in the bottom 5 when all is said and done. Not down on us, just expected to see more than I did. This is why I should stay off the board post-game. Too reactionary (on both sides).
I feel great, we should have won this game 38-3 but we dominated the game and won which is most important. we need to clean up the penalties obviously, we need to knock off the trick plays and Geno needs to stop taking 20 yd sacks but other than that I don't really have any complaints from yesterday.
It's a fair point, I'm just noting that just because we didn't hit double digit sacks against a patchwork O line doesn't mean the D Line didn't disrupt the QB. And keep in mind that's just my opinion, and I'm generally a doofus. =)
Good game....it was just the Raiders but we dominated in most areas. Offense: Geno looked much sharper and in control than last season. Still takes too many snaps from the gun, but a very good game for him overall. His running w/o sliding was forgiven this game. His first run up the middle was 3rd-10 and he barely made it running straight into two defenders. If he slid, we punt. His goal line run (fumble) was with a lot on the line. Other runs that weren't potential game changers he gladly slid. Running game was dominant. O-line was tearing open more holes than Cromartie on prom night. Colon's penalties are what they are, and won't change. Colon is an example of a player Idzik tried to upgrade but couldn't (just yet) and was forced to re-sign him. Defense: 25 yards rushing, 2 sacks, says it all. Backfield played really well, even the late TD pass against Walls. Walls had nice coverage, just got beat. AA played smart and gave up like zero YAC. Overall, like most on here, was happy but saw much room for improvement. I don't feel so apprehensive about the Packer game, I think we have a punchers chance.
The other call I hated was the offensive pass interference call I think on Decker. That was a big play taken away from us, and the replays at the stadium; there wasn't anything there to warrant a call.
that was awful. some days the calls don't go your way, I guess I am glad it happened in a game like that vs. a team we didn't need the calls.
Our front 4 isn't a devastating pass rushing force like say Carolina's, but we get consistent pressure and hit the QB frequently. The most difficult part of our rush for QB's is the fact that they don't know which gap to get protection for, not so much about 1-on-1 domination.
