I was more asking in general. I don't know, I was wondering what others thought of Peterson. I only know of him through reading, I don't watch the Cardinals much
Peterson is better than Sherman. He doesn't require safety help as much as Sherman. Some of the advanced stats from Pro Football Focus and Football Outsiders may show Sherman to be the best but he does a lot of his damage against lesser receivers than Revis and Peterson face. I also like Gilmore as a potential top notch cornerback.
bc to alot of people Sherman is the hottest thang smokin and Revis is just some guy who had it a couple years ago.
Exactly. Sherman's strength is covering the right side of the field. Revis shuts down his WR nomatter where he lines up. Evidence of this is in the Seahawks vs Packers game. Mcarthy moved Jordy Nelson to the left side of the field to try to take Sherman out of his comfort zone. Sherman didn't follow. Granted they still lost and it didn't help all that much, it shows that Sherman is one dimensional in comparison, he's just got a much more talented cast around him.
I find it comical that people use how the coaching staff and defensive scheme that a team decides to utilize a player as a knock, or a way to argue against that particular player. Sherman does not control how he is used, nor does Revis. There are plenty of DC's that may have used Revis on one side. If I were to start a team right now -- I would take Sherman over Revis in a heartbeat. I don't think the final tally on who is/was better can be determined for at least another 5 years, but it is just as likely that the vote swings toward Sherman as it is toward Revis.
They're both flawed. Revis is a man to man only corner. I don't think his TB failure was all injury related. He's not a zone corner. Sherman is ONLY a zone corner. And worse, he can only do it on one side of the field. To be the best you've gotta be more versatile than that. Revis is a better pure corner hands down. Sherman is great at one thing. Seattle knows how to use him properly. The knock is that he's only good at that one thing so there's no way you can call him a better corner. Give me Revis ten times out of ten.
I don't understand this post. Mike Mccarthy didn't move Nelson to the right side to take Sherman out of his comfort zone, however, he did it, because he was afraid of Sherman. The Packers only attacked the right side, and that just allowed Seattle to roll coverage over. Earl Thomas and CO had had one less one third of the field to worry about.
http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/1...as-not-intentionally-avoiding-richard-sherman According to McCarthy, he did exactly that. Maybe he's lying, but that's where I got the information from. If true, that just shows that Sherman isn't that versatile. Rex did keep Revis on one side from time to time depending on the matchups when he had Cromartie on the other side, but usually he stuck with the #1 receiver because that's Revis' strength as a player. If coaches aren't playing to Sherman's strengths they are bad coaches and we know that isn't true of the Seahawks. Sherman's a very good zone corner but he's not a shutdown corner as many announcers have been proclaiming and not in Revis' league as far as pure coverage goes. And people are acting like Revis is over the hill or something. I bet he has terrific year. He wasn't used properly on the Bucs and still played decently.
Pre Injury: Revis will follow the #1 receiver around the field and shadow him Sherman stays on one side of the field, though an excellent player, the defense around him adds to his talent. Sherman was guarding #3,4 receivers against the Packers If Revis returns to his pre injury level, he is the best corner in the NFL
Neither are worth half of what they make. They don't change a game's outcome like a QB does. They don't deserve QB money.
2010 evis outstanding after he recovered from the hamstring injury. Early in the season he was not himself but he was about a month or so into the season through the end. remember him completely shutting down Calvin Johnson? Those #s tell part of the story, revis was matched up w/ the best WRs, Sherman was not. Revis didn't have a great D covering for him around him like Sherman has had. the best corners usually don't have a lot of INTs, it means teams are smart enough to stay away from them.
revis is head and shoulders above sherman... remember when sherman was out there talking about how he is the best cb in the league? and everyone was laughing at him because he was good but nowhere near the player revis is? then he made some idiotic comment about the 49ers guy and everyone freaked out what an asshole he was... THEN everyone figured out he was smart and went to stanford and all of a sudden he wasnt an asshole he was brilliant and the best corner in the league? thats exactly how it went down. and the following of nfl lemmings ran right along with it all because they are fantasy football followers and have very little understanding of the game. that said, richard sherman does his job very well. he is a very good cornerback. darrelle revis is on a completely different level though. he does everything better than everyone else. he is alone out there just about all the time. he is on the best receiver just about all the time and he supports the run better than just about anyone else too. there are very few corners the class of revis in the history of the nfl. i would even take him over deion because he is a complete player and supported the run a million times better than sanders did. revis biggest problem is that he is not a marketing guy who is putting his name out there constantly and the espns of the world havent decided to ride his jock. he seems to be much more of a quiet guy who wants to get paid and do his job. and isnt going to go out there beating his own drum. so all hate for the fact he is a patsy aside. he is one of the all time greats. if he is able to play near the level he has thus far in his career he will be one of the all time greats and hopefully he will get the recognition he deserves. sherman is more in the level of a patrick peterson, great player... just not that hall of fame caliber at this point.
Man... can't tell you how glad I was to read this. I've been trashing PFF for a couple of years now based on the same argument. They get a lot of shit just dead wrong. Glad I'm not the only one who's seen it. Also, Revis > Sherman.
