I know you guys saw that beautiful play last night against the Packers. Do you guys see the Jets incorporating this play into the playbook? I would love to see Marty put this package in and have Kerley or Saunders catching this one and taking it to the house.

Here it is used in College against Alabama. I think this is only the 2nd time I've ever seen this play get executed. You guys a fan of it? I love it myself as long as the QB is able to deliver a nice ball to the receiver and not get it intercepted.

No fucking shit, it was ran last night - for me I haven't seen it much so I would like to get some INTELLIGENT thoughts on it.

When was it ran previously in the NFL?

In most read option plays there's always an option to pass like the play showed above. But the option to pass is normally to the RB.And also that play above doesn't look like a read option play

He's throwing the ball 10 yards down the field in that GIF ... what you said was a quick outlet to the RB no?

This was a pass to the wide receiver 10 yards down the field - I honestly have never seen this really before other then the National Championship game.

I would love to see a Geno - CJ - Kerley play combination similar to what Wilson did last night.

I highly doubt it will be "the next big thing".

I think it will continue to be ran sporadically throughout the course of the year, but not become the next big thing. The 49ers have done this, as have the Panthers and now the Seahawks.

I don't expect to see much of it other than the occasional time.

Similar to the Wild Cat - of course it isn't a play you run constantly - it's another wrinkle that can do some major damage.

I'm looking for information on the 49ers and Panthers using this play (in actual games). Does anyone actually have information on this?

I remember watching that play, they had to go to the video to see if Marshall had stepped over the line of scrimmage before releasing the ball. What a great game.

Seattle ran the read option almost exclusively for a quarter and a half to set that play up.

One of the best college football games of all time in my opinion. When I saw the play I thought to myself, "did he really just throw that?" Never seen anything like it before ...

Exactly, I would love to see the Jets do a play similar to that. Maybe even the Jets could have Chris Johnson go wide and fake the run with Ivory. Obviously set the play up - and run the offense at a very fast tempo to get the defense on their heels.

WVU used to run that all the time with Pat White from '05-'08. Nothing new.

Faster than all the DB's on the field.

Couple things. RG3 did this often his first year. Also, I believe we have even done it before with Kerley and that was a big gainer or touchdown. It's a surprise play, because you can slide the coverage and just have the safety blow the QB up because he is considered a runner at that point. Will not work as a consistent play call and will put your QB down.

I watched the condensed game from last night, the Seahawks ran that read option for all runs in the first quarter and a half last night, until Wilson threw that pass. Then they just sprinkled in about 10 read option plays randomly for the rest of the game.

The only reason they did that shit early was to throw that pass for a long gain, and it ended up being a TD. They went away from it after that, for the most part.

The read option is predicated on catching the outside DE or OLB depending on formation off his assignment, one of the plays they ran that intrigued me the most was the read option wrap around with a guy like Harvin running full speed across the line, I don't know how many edge guys in the league that can chase that down and DB's have to play their assignment. If they don't you have an undisciplined guy like GB did trying to be a hero on the option and leaving Lockette wide open against a safety.

Really the reason the read option has not and should not take over the NFL is the sheer force of the hits you can take running this type of offense, its not pretty and if prepared for with proper technque and assignment is all but made obsolete and becomes a gimmick. Just remember that NFL guys have no limit on the amount of preperation per week compared to like 15 hours in college.

This play isn't going to become a "thing" lol it's a nice play that teams could carry in their play books but it won't become a thing. Defenses will adjust and prepare for it. It's not unstoppable.

Good post, the read option is intended to be a mid-direction running play to either the QB, RB or even a Jet sweep, but none of these read option plays includes a pass going 10 yards down the field - I was thinking it's a new wrinkle. I've just never seen it before in the NFL, actually today I took some time to actually look for a GIF or article from the NFL - nothing ...

Read option appears to have a big impact on the NFL today. Look at the past 2 SBs with Kaepernick and Wilson both using the Read Option. Hell Kaepernick got the 49ers to the SB 2 seasons ago by destroying the Packers with the read option. Packers still haven't learned - while some teams have.

That play in the Seahawks game, it was a back-breaker for the Packers - rest of the game they were running around like a chicken with it's head cut off.

I never said it was unstoppable, please don't put words in my post. I said it's potentially the next big thing, and more teams will look to use the pass-play read option as another wrinkle.

Packers after 3 yrs still can't stop it. If the read option NEVER existed, the Packers prob would be facing the Ravens in that SB 2 yrs ago.

The pass is not a wrinkle, its schemed for when a DB decides he wants to leave his guy and attack the QB, defending the read option is 100% about trust in your DL and LBs.
