I'll preface my remarks with a apology to Mangini and the new Jet leadership. I figured we would be 0-4 at this point. after going 2-2 we have a great shot at 8 wins or better. well her's my take so far after 4 games Offense QB)Chad is back! The man has played better then most of us could have expected. His passes have been accurate and have had some zip. The only thing left is his durability we'll see if he's able to go the full 16. The man has earned a A- OL)I'll start with the positives. Overall the rookies have played well they're still raw and making mistakes but they are learning quickly. Pass protection has been good overall. Here comes the bad news our run blocking is ATROCIOUS improvement is needed and as the season goes on it should get better.I feel they earned a C RB)Except for Houston (injured yesterday)and the rookie Washington this group is mediocre and defenitely needs upgrading in 07'. I've been suprised at Washington's ability to run the ball as well as he has. Barlow and Blaylock along with Askew are strictly bench warmers.I feel as a group they've earned a D TE)Baker has played well except for a few ill timed penalties. The rest are ok. I would rqte them a C+ WR)Coles and Cotchery are a great tandem. The YAC are a big factor in Pennington's suscess.Dwight and Smith are good additions and compliment the starters. McCAriens disappears for long periods and it's hard to justify Bradway's trade for him. I'll give this group a solid B Defense DL) This group is bad except for Ellis and "old" man Hamillton they're terrible. The line is constantly pushed downfield with gaping holds a 18 wheeler could go through.Pass rush is nearly extinct in the 3-4 or 4-3 for that matter. They get a F LB)Hard to tell is it the DL making this group look bad or the LB personnel themselves.vilma hasn't played like a Pro bowl player. This group gets a C DB)Except for Dyson and Rhodes this group is mediocre, Miller gets beat on more routes then my teenager's drum set.Rhodes has potential to be something special. I'll give them a C Coaching)Kuddos to all especially the H/C except for one. Our D/C Bob Sutton needs to make changes. It's ridiculous that teams run all over us.Mangini may be on the verge of taking a stonger role running the defense. On the other side is Brian Schottenheimer he's been a breath of freash air after Hackett's offense. He's suprised me with his play calling except for that 4th and 2 yesterday(That's another hole thread  )I'll give the staff a B. Specials)What can I say ecxcept for the last K/r return yesterday they have been great.Give them a A- Please post your grades and comments.
Nice post but I disagree about what CHAD has to do! NOW HE HAS TO FINALLY WIN A GAME WE SHOULD NOT WIN ala MANNING yesterday! CHAD gets tons of credit but lets be real! What TOP team has he beaten in rece4nt years? Now is the time to start! A few upsets and we could be 10 and 6. Beating cupcakes will get us 8 and 8. TIME TO STEP UP CAHD and win some games we shouldn't be able to win!
I agree except on your take on Sutton. You have to remember, there are still alot of missing pieces. There is no pass rusher, not really. The DL is mediocre, especially Robertson. Add to that, Mangini is changing over to a 3-4 dominate defense. There are a lot of square pegs in round holes at the moment. And Vilma has been extremely dissappointing this year, and IMO it has very little to do with the 3-4, because Ray Lewis still produced when Baltimore instituted the 3-4 (the lack of decent NT, probably has a lot to do with this). I was also at Sunday's game. A LOT of players were out of position and missing assignments. After every big running or passing play they gave up, there was a player looking over at the sideline with his hands up like "Wait? Wait happened?" You can have the best game plan in the world, but unless you have the talent and players producing on the field, there is not much more you can ask a DC. And I also suspect that Mangini has a significant voice on the D.
You're an idiot. So which is it...you're mad at him for not being able to drive 98 yards in 45 seconds? Or because he can't also play defense and stop the Colts offense? That had to be one of the dumbest posts I've ever read
Assuming the players are static for the year – I think the biggest thing we could improve on over the next few weeks is coming out of the gate a little stronger. We seem to be pretty flat in the first quarter (maybe a little conservative?) and then pour it on like champs. I’d say despite the obvious problems in the two losses the slow start is what hurt us. I think that should get better over the next few weeks as players start to believe in themselves and the system more and more. We’re not half bad – we can realistically close the season out with six wins. We steal a few more in there and we’re 10 – 6 maybe even 11 – 5. Damn – VickBlows optimism…what is the world coming too?
I am sorry KJ, but I don't know what game you watched. Chad beat Indy up and down the field yesterday, despite having no running game and having to run his butt off. The problem with our not winning yesterday had very little to do with our offense, so unless you expect Chad to start playing the DL, the secondary or LB position I would cut the guy a whole lot of slack. He's earning his keep this year thus far.
I’m not going to get into Chad bashing because his performance has far surpassed my wildest expectations thus far. With that said – to say that KJ is insane in a misnomer; Chad has always been able to win the games we are “supposed to win” but hasn’t been able to elevate the team enough through his play in the games we are “supposed to lose” to pull them out or at least pull them out consistently. You guys are kind of funny; we win one and it’s because of Chad’s performance. We lose one and it’s everything but Chad’s performance. So despite a solid performance by CP, when we go for it on 4th and whatever yesterday – if Chad doesn’t under throw the ball and get picked off – does the defenses piss poor performance mean so much?
The Jets were not supposed to win IN San Diego since they "backed in" and were coming off a bad loss having to travel out-west... Now, that's only 1 occurence...So I guess I agree with you. But regardless, he's the QB I/we want on this team and are confident in him...
Being backed up on your 3 yard line with less than a minute to go is a tall order for anyone in the league - unless you are playing against the Jets defense.
i've been happy about how well the Jets have played. They are starting to get some respect. Hopefully the younger guys will keep getting better.
Dude he is just flat out a Chad hater. We put up 28 points yesterday, and we lost, and then he comes talking about we need to pull off wins against superior teams. its not like we lost 10-3, where I can see his point, we lost 31-28. There is only so much Chad can do. about the ball in the endzone, did u really say it was an underthrow? If wo what game were you watching?? Chad basically threw it up for grabs since it was 4th down, there weer 3 people right around the ball. we all know he has a tendecny to underthrow some balls but thats not 1 of them All in all I agree with the earlier poster, KJ is an idiot. Chad could set the single game mark for yds in a game we could lose 100-99. Oh he needs to elevate his play vs winning teams ETC ETC ETC. He is never satisfied with anything Chad does. All he is, is a more elaborate Mr.NY Jet
If a defender is standing in front of a receiver and the ball is thrown and is caught by the defender and not the receiver ? I fail to see where it is NOT underthrown???
Did some of you guys just give up at the end of 2004 and decide not to watch the Chargers playoff game? That was a playoff game, on the road, against a 12-4(?) team. All week people talked about how we didn't deserve to go to the playoffs, we just backed in. Nobody gave us a chance. Then he played a great game with a torn rotator cuff and we won. What about 2002, the team was left for dead after we lost to the Bears, and then he played 3 brilliant games in a row, on the road against the defending champs, at home against the 12-4 Packers, and in the playoffs against the Colts. Only the Colts game were we favored to win. As for the last part of your post, he had no chance on that play. The best we could have hoped for was an incompletion. If he threw it away we would have been better off, but the way our defense played I doubt an 18 yard difference in field position would have mattered.
Thank you, i have no clue what VB is talking about, its underthrown, if he 'overthrows' it its either a pick or out of the endzone
