I get that we obviously have some problems when it comes to our corners, but you guys need to relax a little bit. Every single team in the league, except for maybe the Seahawks, have glaring weaknesses. Raiders - Essentially the entire team. Packers - Very weak secondary still. BJ Raji just went down for the year which is only going to make a weak D even weaker. Mediocre offensive line as well. Bears - Very weak secondary and offensive line issues. Lions - Horrible secondary, mediocre O-Line. Broncos - Having trouble in the running game without Moreno. Welker just went down with another concussion. Now with Decker gone and Welker constantly getting hurt they will be missing 2000+ yards of production, not to mention the 1000+ yards with Moreno. It's not that easy to replace as the media wants us all to think. Patriots - Still have a garbage receiving core and Gronk just can't stay healthy. It's not like we were that great in pass defense last year anyways (22nd in the NFL) and now are going to drop like a rock. The D last year overall did well because we were 3rd in rush defense, and blew up alot of drives by getting to the QB. This team isn't going to hold teams to 14 - 17 points per game like in years past. The good news is that we added a 1000+ yard receiver in Decker, a 1000+ yard rusher in Johnson, and a guy that is already showing flashes of being able to catch 55 - 60 balls this season in Amaro, and those things combined should be more then enough to make up for what we are lacking in the secondary. We are just going to have to count on our offense scoring some more points this year.
Seahawks just cut Terrell Thomas, when healthy can be a pretty good corner....definitely add some strength to a weak secondary. Seahawks are pretty stacked on defense so I can understand why he didn't make the cut, although rotoworld does report that he was beat out by some no namers. http://www.rotoworld.com/player/nfl/4850/terrell-thomas
I really think as soon as we start really game planning our defensive line is going to be a real problem for opposing offenses. I also think Milliner is going to be really solid when he comes back, although I'm a little worried about when that might be. I don't make homer posts or or grand claims ever, but I do think there is a legitimate chance we could have the best defensive line in football this year. It's not an easy comparison to make but I see no reason to expect our run defense to dramatically regress since we have the exact same front 7 starting and the addition of Pryor. I think our pass rush will only improve from Coples and Babin. The reason I think we could boast the best in the league is because we have players who can beat their matchup consistently but also have unique versatility. Many teams have a lineman who is considered versatile, but because we have 3 I believe that could put us over the top.
The point is that with Milliner coming back, we should not be so worried about the secondary. Our defensive line will make it too difficult for QB's to consistently abuse us through the air. I don't really care if you're Peyton Manning or Aaron Rogers, after what I saw our line do to Drew Bree's last year I'm confident in their disruptive ability. Only time will tell if injuries ultimately bring us down, but based on the the knowledge that Milliner should be on the field for most of the season I remain hopeful for a wildcard berth.
Bears problem right now is not the secondary it's the middle of their D. The linebackers have been terrible so far. Broncos have plenty of new weapons through fa signings and the draft, they will be fine. Patriots WR corp is not garbage. It was all rookies last year, they will only be better this year. Not disagreeing with the premise of your post but let's get things straight don't just post random shit.
Joe Caporoso @TurnOnTheJets Going to make it. So is Hakim RT @nyjets76forlife: @TurnOnTheJets media starting to report Salas is in good shape for a spot on 53 man 2h Dennis Waszak Jr. @DWAZ73 Two others who are likely safe bets for the #Jets' initial 53-man roster: OT Ben Ijalana and C Dalton Freeman. 4m
Apparently the Jets are releasing the final roster by the end of today. They really are waiting until the last minute to do it lol
Rex Ryan: " The New York Jets are not planning to announce any cuts on Friday, coach Rex Ryan said on an early-afternoon conference call with reporters. "We’ve been meeting," Ryan said. "We’re discussing all the things that go into making the cuts and things, but again, we’re not gonna make the announcements right now. Our list will probably be a complete list when we think it’s the appropriate time to do so." The deadline for NFL teams to pare their rosters to 53 players is 4 p.m. ET on Saturday. "
Nice and balanced, thank you man. I would like to add that the 2011 Giants gave up more passing yards (4000) than any team in the history of SB winners. Their secondary was terrible, not saying that the jets will do the same, but if Tom Coughlin could coach his team and win a SB with that type of secondary then Rex should do fine. He gets credit for getting so much from last years team, he has a pretty decent team this year. Let's see what adjustments he will make to put his team in playoff contention.
Defensive line is going to set the tempo for the season I hope. None of the teams except for the Patriots and Broncos have good offensive lines.
Good points.. dont sleep on Oakland though. They are well improved and khalil mack looks like a DROY candidate already.. still got us beating them though, just sayin
I believe Rex will be fine.. and i think Rex believes it too. We also got the d-line to match what the giants had. Also i think Calvin Pryor will make a name for himself early, if he does..he's the type player that QB's MUST KNOW where he is..another plus to help the secondary out.
Had a feeling Edds would end up released. It's a competition mantra, except if your competing against someone Idzik drafted (George)... Edds outplayed George on both D and ST by a wide margin, but we weren't going to keep 5 ILB's. With Richardson, i only saw him making team if Tbo was cut. 5 RB's is too many.
