1. Of course this has been beaten to death...BUT...given that this is a rebuilding year, you have to be happy with the way the Jets competed today. Very rarely am I the type to use the phrase "moral victory"....but this qualifies. 2. Mangini made the CORRECT call on 4th and 1 at the goal line. Champions play to win. Herm plays not to lose. If this franchise ever wants to build an identity...then these are the calls you have to make. Besides, 3 points does little against the Colts. 3. Schottenheimer made the INCORRECT call on 4th and 1 at the goal line. Play action fools no one at that point. Then you roll out Chad...taking him out of his comfort zone. The proper play is shotgun and a 4 reciever set. Let Chad play darts. 4. Justin Miller's return LOST us the game. I had a feeling that the team who had the ball last would have won the game. I'd rather have Chad driving for a score to tie or win rather than Peyton driving for a win. 2:00...4 points down...and the Jets D. Manning was licking his chops. Bottom Line: We are in fine shape. Mangini REALLY has his team prepared. If the Jets continue to move the ball like this, we will be a .500 or slightly better team this year.
We had some discussion about this one in my section. While I disagree with the call personally, I can see where they were coming from. They got where they were because of agressive play-calling, and continuing the trend was a perfectly reasonable thing to do.
point 4 is hard to understand...you take the points, be proactive and make your D stop them...as it turned out, our D didnt...doing what you say kinda tells our D "well you guys suck and i hate you" not exactly confidence building.
I agree with 1-3, but 4 is a little bit too exaggerated in my opinion. I think that before you can put any blame on SCORING POINTS, you have to blame poor Defense for letting Manning and Addai have their way with us. In no way, shape, or form does anyone give up points like that.
It wasn't 4th and 1 it was 4th and 2 1/2. That's a big difference, since it negates the run and you have to resort to the pass. Should have thrown a pass on either 2nd or 3rd down prior to that.
Actually, I think it was more like 4th and 2 or 4th and 3. At the time, I wanted Mangini to go for it, too, but hindsight is 20/20, and I now realize what a bad decision it was. I do like Mangini's risk taking nature, and I think that'll win us more games than not, but I still think it was a bad idea to go for it in that situation. At the time, the Jets had momentum on their side, and it felt like they could do anything they wanted on offense (run game was starting to click, too). I assumed the worst case scenario was that they wouldn't convert, and the Colts would have it at the 1-yard line or so. I figured, with the crowd behind them, the defense would be able to hold Manning and crew, and get the Jets offense good field position. Of course, looking back on it now, those 3 points were crucial.
