He's not a better pure runner then Ivory whose also one of the best RB's in the league at creating YAC. Johnson is a better pass catcher then him, and he's not a home run type hitter like Johnson either. Right now I think the Jets have him right where he belongs. He's a third string RB who can step up when the team needs him. He's not a bad player, he's just average IMO.

Love his value, just wonder if we can even retain him after seasons end. it'd be nice to have a RB on contract through 2016, hopefully he shows enough to warrant retaining him and not him letting go.

He shouldn't be worth more than 2-3 million a year, but I wouldn't hold it past JI to draft a replacement rather than pay the extra millions to keep him around. He could be quite the free agent RB target, not starting material, but a great compliment to round out some teams ground game. I really hope its ours.

I like Bilal but he probably wouldn't be able to handle the workhorse back role.

    He's a perfect number 3.

Powell will get relief carries during the season and do well, and depending on injuries, will probably get increased carries.

Does anyone remember when people were screeching for Shonn Greene carries in 2009?

Jones and Washington carried the load until week 7, then when Leon got torn apart, it was mostly Jones.

Going into the playoffs, nobody thought Greene had anything to offer.

But he had strength and speed and FRESH LEGS.

Why wouldn't you want that for a player like Powell? Who could do anything?

I just hope they're in that position at the end of the season

Yeah, that's the gamble. I think that if the Jets start out the gate getting hammered and don't appear to be a playoff team for reasons other than the running game, Powell's pitch count well probably increase.

Powell is a perfect example of a player Idzik will replace with a 4th round rookie when the time comes. No way in hell Idzik drops $2-3M/yr on a player he can replace for less than $1M a year for 4 years. Bank it.

It's great that we can debate on what back should get the most carries.....means we have a pretty damn solid backfield. But YES I want to see Powell get more carries....he's shifty and has speed. Very nice COP from Johnson/Ivory.

I am a big fan of Powell and I think if given the chance he could be a number one/workhorse running back. We are stacked at running back.

I think Powell is better at reading the holes then both CJ and Ivory. That long run he had the other night was sweet the way he cut it up and dodged a couple defenders and ran though an arm tackle.

I thought he did a great job last year. I just hope the oline gives this three headed monster consistent holes and we can control the clock and beat up defenses. Keep our defense fresh and off the field unlike the last decade of the defense playing 3/4 of the damn game and being gassed

Powell is a middle-class man's Curtis Martin. He's a fine rotational back and I'd be really happy if he was the 3rd back in for years to come. Maybe the 2nd back in his good years.

Now that I think about it, we could always use a reliable back once CJ and Ivory's contracts are up, not that we won't keep those two (its hard to tell with RB's.) but we can give him a decent deal after season's end for two years.

This way we have a capable veteran RB in his prime to compliment a draft pick or maybe somebody else. It at least gives us options and leverage, if anything. Guys like powell are worth keeping, but I suppose we just need to play things by ear.

Don't get excited for D Richardson. He's nothing more than depth. If he's getting any meaningful carries then we are in trouble.

While Powell isn't a top back, he is not replaceable by just any rookie. He's good at everything when he's on the field, just not great at any one thing (in comparison to top RBs)

I enjoy Powell. He is a guy who does it on Game Day. Hard-nosed, elusive when he has to be, tough when he has to be. Very reliable

Agreed that he'll be replaced before Idzik ever thinks of paying him $2-$3 million per. He's an average player. Nothing more, nothing less.

Just like he replaced Revis with Milliner. Don't matter if the Rook can't carry the jock strap of the Vet he replaced. That's on Rex and his coaching staff (in Idzik's mind).

Are you comparing losing Powell to losing Revis? I'm assuming your obviously not, cause there is a huge difference between filling Revis' shoes and filling Powell's.

Bilal Powell is a fairly easily replaceable player. Ivory and Johnson are both better. He's a quality backup RB in a passing league.

No, I'm not comparing Powell to Revis. Just that when it comes time to pay these guys, Idzik seems to take a long hard look at the college ranks, and then leaves it to Rex to make it work.

Like he should be. Handing out contracts for fucks sake is what losing franchises do. Winners keep the talent flowing in from the draft.
