Does anyone remember if they ever gave Graham a shot at kicking-off in preseason? I don't think so, but now that he seems to have punting down, can we give him a shot.

I am not blaming nugent for anything, he just can't seem to get KOs deep and it seems like the one ST area the Jets could improve in.

  2. He kicked acouple nice ones today. It lookedlike both kickers were struggling to get it deep. Not sure if it was 2 poor kickers or if the wind/ we field had anything to do w/ it..

In addition to KOs, Graham should also try kicking FGs as well.

Amen to that. Nugent scares the hell out of me with every kick. I never saw a field goal kicker who seems to sneak every extra point inside the post by less than a yard.

Nugent can not do kickoffs anymore. I dont think he has a touchback yet and gives the other teams such good field position. I'm sure if Grahm tried he wouldn't do much worse.

He does have a touchback, but forget that...what has everyone convinced Ben Graham is the next renaissance man? Because the guy learned to punt an NFL ball? Kicking and punting are two completely different things. I could punt a ball 50 yards, but I can't kick it off the ground for shit. Let Nugent do his job...and if he isn't doing his part in the coaches eyes, then they'll make a change.

Keep in mind, sometimes the plan is to get more air under it and kick it a little shorter. I remember Westoff talking about it one time

My suggestion was purely related to the fact that Nugent has not even been getting that much air on his shorter kicks. I don't know if Ben Graham could do it, but in the Belichick mold, Mangini seems to like versatile players. Also, you don't want to carry an extra kicker just for KOs.

rugby...come on mate, its aussie rules...its not as if its a secret now ;)

about the hit, he tried to get him but kinda got spun around in the attempt, he wouldnt be happy with it as he didnt exactly stop the guy...if you ever see a tackle being made in aussie rules, then you will understand Ben would rather pin the guy than just hit him.

Nugent never could. He has always been awful at kickoffs. He certainly is no John Hall!

I have been thinking that too, we have to try something as Nugent's KO's kill us. We either have to get a KOS in here or teach Graham how to Kick off.

Back in the '60s the Jets used DE Verlon Biggs to kickoff. This summer I attended four training camp practices, and never saw Graham even monkey around with kicking off. With his size and strong leg you would think he has tried. If the POSSIBILITY is so obvious to us, Westhoff must have considered it too. I would think an athlete like D'Brick could send that pigskin a mile. Nugent is so small.
