Brace yourselves Jet fans, because the era of Fugger Football is officially over. The Jets have released the Colts' 2012 7th round linebacker Tim Fugger, denying us the best last name in football. (He had a knee injury.) Now we have cornerback LeQuan Lewis instead; he has been with 9 teams (including 1 CFL team) in the 3 years since he turned pro- which has to be some kind of record. He was on our practice squad in 2012. Thoughts/reactions? Personally I don't think he's likely to make the roster, but given all the drama around the cornerback position I'd like to hear what folks think.
Is anyone surprised that McDougie is still on the roster and not IR? Any chance the ACL thing isn't a season ending injury? Am I just grasping for hope where none exists?
IR is still on the roster, technically, but I know what you mean. It is season-ending, but maybe they're waiting for more tests or a second opinion or something. He needs at least 6 months to recover (ideally 9+) so he is done for the year- unless the ACL tear diagnosis was wrong. (It won't be.)
His last name was a major reason why he should have made this team, but I think ultimately his questionable pronunciation choices forced Rex Ryan to cut him. He pronounces Fugger like "Few-gur" instead of the obviously superior pronunciation of "Fug-gur." If we could have found a way to perhaps convert him from OLB to left guard (stay with me, folks) we would have D'brickashaw Fugger on the left side of the o-line. Opposing defensive lines' sacks would retract into their bodies upon hearing Tim whisper: "It's Fugger Time." FunFact: He had a mullet in college and said it was a metaphor for the football season. But on a more serious note, Tim Fugger was one of those late round picks who has potential, but kept getting hurt in camp. This is his third camp, and unfortunately injuries kept him from ever being able to show what he could actually do.
Would be better if Fugger had a son. And DBrick played another 20 years. Then>>> D'brickashaw fugger-son?
Technically still 9, since he was with the Jets already. He's had something like 28 "player transactions" (signings, cuttings, etc) so far. On the other hand, you have to have some promise and talent to get that many chances.
