Yup, Patterson shouldn't be left on an island. We have the kind of d-line and hopefully linebackers that can enable us to give the CBs some help at times. I don't know if Patterson can be a good press coverage CB. His thing is getting interceptions

Rex may want to keep him on an island anyway and err on the side of more blitzing. Whatever he does, I just hope it works.

If you think playing with your back to the ball and having no awareness is how a Ist round CB should play, then Wilson wasn't a terrible pick. HE will be gone as soon as his contract is up unless he takes a small contract. Cornerbacks taken in the 1st round are supposed to start and be impact players. Guy is a total liability.

Tell me 3 slot corners better then Kyle Wilson? even tho he didnt justify his first round pick he isnt a liability on the slot. I agree tho he needs to accept a small contract since his production ( stats wise) havent been great.

This is because Uncle Ebineezer (Idzik) will wait till the Ghost of Christmas Past to visit him before he spends a dime. Plus, his team of advisors and scouts are not doing a good job. Perhaps they need to join TGG lol.

Wilson may look bad at times on the field but the numbers don't back up the popular view of him as a bad CB. He consistently grades as an average slot corner. That means he's in the middle of the pack most of the time. The disconnect is that he was a 1st round pick and people expect a lot more of him than an average slot CB.

You could make the argument that the Jets should replace him and try to find a good slot CB instead. That's the argument for cutting him. Some other team will pick him up in that case and use him just like the Jets were. That's because a bunch of teams have truly bad slot CB's playing and Wilson would be an upgrade for them.

I think Wilson would be a lot more effective in a Cover 2 scheme. In a cover 2 he'd have to turn and run less, most plays will develop in front of him and he would get more safety help.

Yep, I agree on this. Letting Wilson see the play in front of him will help him a lot.

Like I said, he's solid in the slot. I didn't say anything about his draft position, but claiming he's garbage is pretty boneheaded considering he was ranked pretty high in yards per attempt last year, and was indeed a top slot corner in the league. Yes, he can improve on his penalties and his play on the outsides, but he's been solid for us for near two years now. Folks that attack him only remember his first 2 years and now he has a couple bad plays in the first preseason game and fans attack him like crazy.

I don't think Wilson is a good slot corner. I always see him in busted coverage. He's good at making tackles...ONCE he lets the receiver catch the ball lol.

What stats make him a good slot corner tho...I'm legit curious? If it's tackles...I don't buy it....If he has a bunch of PDs I've never seen then I'm willing to accept the fact that maybe I've overlooked him.

    It's in the advanced stats.

He was ranked #5 in the league in yards per coverage snap, and #3 in coverage snaps per reception.

No slot corners really rack up PDs or INTS. If you never hear Kyle Wilson's name mentioned, he's having a decent game. That's just the way it is. I'm not saying he's great, but in the slot he's solid and has been for a while.

The sad part is that this was my opinion of his game coming out of Boise. Still confused why we drafted him considering Rex's proclivity to press man. If CB had to be the pick, I would have thought we'd draft Patrick Robinson. While Robinson had his own issues coming out, he at least was the better schematic fit.

Maybe I never thought much of him because I never heard his name. He's very quiet most of the time except when he occasionally allows a pass. Perhaps he's a better slot corner than I'm willing to admit...I just don't think he's amazing.

Still...he's better than most teams have. Wilson in the slot truly isn't the problem though...it's giving up the long passes on the side.
