I agree that Vick should play the least of all the QBs in the preseason. He knows the offense, has nothing to prove and is old/injury prone. He doesn't need the live reps. Geno Smith should play a little more than your average starting QB, maybe give Vick one series before Simms and Boyd all preseason.
I agree unfortunately. It's all setting up so just in case they crash and burn Rex Ryan can use the Geno Smith young QB excuse to keep his job. Imagine Geno Smith has another midseason swoon and it brings them at 4-6 with the offense struggling. The right decision would be to switch to Vick to try and salvage the season, but Rex would be foregoing his built in excuse by doing that. He will stick with Geno Smith, finish 7-9 and yet again the Rex supporters will praise his defense and say "if only he had a good QB" .
Put that crystal ball to good use and gimme some lotto numbers. Sadly enough, I feel like you WANT this to happen just so you can bitch about it in August of 2015.
What happens if Simms puts up 50 points a game in pre-season action? Is he still 3rd string, how far could he move up if he really sets shit on fire?
I don't want it to happen. What I want to have happen is for my favorite team to play the better player at the QB position. I personally don't think they are doing that. I don't have a crystal ball and I could be way wrong about how things pan out, I would be happy to. But since 2010 -Rex has mismanaged the QB position and that's somehow been used as an excuse for him to keep his job. I am just laying out how this year could pan out given the track record.
People on here seem to keep insisting Geno is the better QB and that Vick is a backup, as if saying it more will make it true
Whatever happened to a minimum post count to start a thread? We should at least have some amount of time required after initial membership, like more than a week. It would at least reduce the redundant threads like this one, seriously how many separate threads do we need about who the starter should be?
Vick is not the best QB, and even if he was, starting out the season with a QB who is 100% certain to get hurt is a recipe for failure and another huge step back for the franchise. For arguments sake, let's say Rex gave Vick the 1st team reps, made him the start week 1. Let's say Vick played great for the first 8 games, went 5-3, then went down with a bad injury. So now you are throwing Geno in cold after not playing with the 1st team pre-season and sitting for the first 8 weeks. He goes 3-5 or 4-4 and the Jets miss the playoffs. Now what do you do? You go into next year planning to cut Geno when he never got a chance to show you what he can do, and try to draft a new QB and start all over? You bring back injury riddled Vick for another partial season? In my opinion bringing in Vick was a mistake because of the distraction he will cause. That being said, if Rex truly had the discipline to use him strictly as a backup, he isn't bad. Vick is a guy that can come in at halftime if Geno sprains and ankle and do enough to keep the team in the game. He is not a guy that can play 16 games, let alone playoff games, and remain healthy throughout.
