Preseason is around the corner and that pumps me up. Why? Because it gives us the first huge glimpse at what we might have team wise, first real cut at the good, the bad and the ugly. From my view point preseason is more about how we play the game than how we win the game. It's about individual and team performance, progress and promise.

Here is what I'm hoping to get out of preseason:

1 -A healthy squad -First and foremost no serious injuries - Hope the roster gets filled with the best of best players, veterans or rookies that earned it in practice and training camp. Hate to see a deserving player loose a chance of a lifetime due to injuries.
2 - A well coached team - I want to see a team that plays with passion and discipline. Good execution, good routs, good coverage, no back braking mistakes.
3 -Confidence - I want to see excitement on the field, a good mix of runs, screens, medium and long passes on offense and a few blitzes, QB rushes and run stuffers on defense.
4 - Maturity - I expect Geno to show significantly more leadership, poise and confidence. I want to see Vick light it up and have fun out there. Lets end the preseason with the message we have some players that can rock.
5- Time to shine/ Pleasant surprises - Hope to see plenty of action from the rookies and also some quality time from the new acquisitions and vets. Can't wait to see Pryor, Hill, Milliner, Amaro, McDougle ,Saunders and Reilly to name a few. Who will be the steal of the draft this year for us?
6 -No unnecessary risks - No crazy long runs by the QBs, no experiments for the key players. Run out of bounds and avoid the big hit by some third stringer trying to make a name for himself.

For me hope springs eternal with the Jets, and the fun starts in preseason. Can't wait to watch some 2014 Jets football

I have a question for someone. I found out I'm missing the game on Thursday. DVR isnt an option, is there another way that I can rewatch the game?

Think there will be a torrent for it?

On topic: I agree with your assessments. As long as they stay healthy and Geno limits turnovers I'll be happy.

Do you have the NFL Network? I'd assume they'll be replaying every preseason game multiple times throughout the week, prior to the next week's set of games, as they've done in the past. You'd just need to check the schedule to see when it's on.

While the preseason games offer a measure of relief for the pent up desire for football that accumulates over the long off season, I've personally learned to never put too much stock in them simply because the results can so often be misleading in terms of what we can expect in the regular season. At best, I look for some affirmation or reinforcement of what was already known or a given and maybe a glimpse into the potential of what might be some good things to come. Imbalanced match-ups, conservative play calling and the overall limited playing time frequently given to key starting players often produces a Fool's Gold impression of what to expect when the real season begins in my opinion.

My main concerns center around getting though the games with a minimum of injuries, penalties, and stupid mistakes on both sides of the ball (although when it comes to the latter, this is the time to make and correct them).

You can get NFL Preseason Live for $20 and watch it on your computer or tablet. Or wait for it to come on on NFL Network. You could also use NFL Audio Pass.

I'm looking to see progress from the young guys, and to see how they execute. Wins and losses don't matter.

There are few things as meaningless and fodder for blowing things out of proportion than preseason games. Over 48 years os watching the NFL I've learned to take everything I see in a preseason game, other than injuries, with a grain of salt. I've seen great teams and players look awful and bad teams and players look great. It all means very little. So if the OP is looking for "show me" he is going to be disappointed and misled by what he sees. All that matters is who gets the last 10 spots and then Oakland in week 1. And too many people put too much stock on week one performances, but we'llleave that foe the inevitable "the Jets are great" or "the Jets suck" threads that will follow that game.

Remember how many times last year the term, "dead ball foul" got thrown around? All my years watching football, I never gave that term a second thought. Then, last year, the Jets went through those shitty, undisciplined, penalty streaks and that term became burned in my brain.

I'd love to see the Jets show that they are a more disciplined team this year, starting in the preseason. Hopefully we never hear that term in relation to the Jets ever again.

Breno/Colon would give the Iron Shiek/Nikolai Volkoff a run for their money.

There will be dead ball fouls. I just hope the fouls are accompanied by a nasty running game and adequate pass blocking.

I put a little bit more stock in pre-season then most people do, but the final scores mean absolutely nothing. If by the end of the 1st quarter, Geno and the starting offense can lead one long drive for atleast a field goal I would be satisfied. The biggest thing I will be watching this game though will be the Jets secondary vs. Andrew Luck. Luck is extremely overrated by the media but he is still the 12th to 16th best QB in the NFL. He's a good test for our secondary with alot of question marks, and I am curious to see how they hold up.

This is more of a general statement for everyone on the team, but I want to see how everyone looks in a live game situation. Hill has been pretty good in practice but lets see if he shows up in a "real" game. Reverse goes for Amaro. He has had a rough start but sometimes just getting a rookie out there in a real game is all it takes to get him going. There is a big difference between practice and actually playing football. Same deal with Geno. He has had a very good camp. Theres no disputing that, but lets see what happens when he faces a different defense and guys are actually coming to hit him hard.

My honest guess too is that Vick will look freaking amazing against the Colts second team defense and people will be going nuts saying he should start. That's really where pre-season gets distorted. People forget that just because the logo on the helmet is the same doesn't mean it's even close to the real team they will be putting out later.

I can't wait until tommorow night, this is the most excited I have been for a pre season game in a long time.Rex says the starters will play into the second qtr so we will atleast get to see a full qtr from the starters.

Top Things Im Looking At Thursday and preseason in general

Vick and the second team offense
Hill and Gates and any progress they have made
Geno in his second year, plus the entire starting offense
    The secondary
All the rookies and guys trying to make team
    The Shape Chris Johnsons in
    Special Teams
    The defense as a whole

My focus are on five things:
    1) Geno - is the training camp hype real?
    2) is Millner ready to earn the #1cb role? Who is lining up across from him?
    3) Has Aboushi stepped up? Can Dozier and Campbell be the future?
4)which wide receivers want to make a name for themselves?
    5) can Ik enkepampali or Trevor Reilly replace an aging Pace?
