Is anyone under the impression that the NY media isn't being completely trolled by the Jets?

    Back to football...

As general matter, what team that ostensibly (even if not for real) is having a competition at Qb would name the starter at the end of the first week of camp?

Aside from that, naming Smith the starter will do nothing to soothe the minds of any Jet players who think Vick should be the starter. If the concern is controversy within the team, only Smith succeeding in games will help.

I don't even think the players would respect the decision. The perception is common that Smith is Idzik's choice, so Rex saying such a thing would look too much like it wasn't really his decision, anyway.

And if the concern is the press, who imo is not really going crazy on this one, yet, they will as someone else mentioned merely go on to some other aspect of this issue.

The Jets imo made a good decision getting Vick, but once they did they either had to have a true competition, or risked being perceived as too favoring to Smith if their real agenda is seeing whether last year's second round pick can become an acceptable performer. They have chosen the latter course. They have their reasons. But controversy over not playing the vet who is probably the better player is inevitable.

Your right. Vick is here so they can have a short lease on Geno.

Somebody said "back to football" . Would be nice if they knew anything about the sport.

    Let's really talk football.

Geno Smith has a long road, he may have taken an average number of shotgun snaps as a rookie (compared to a lot of other premier QBs), but he has to make strides as an under center QB this year. Rookie comparisons are nice, sophomore comparisons are critical. A qualifying factor is the offensive line. I like the hype of the guard competition, but the results won't show until maybe the second or third preseason game. And maybe not even then.

There's a comfort in knowing that Chris Johnson is setting LBs and safeties on their heels, so the OL can confidently handfight, but the receiving corps won't get any respect until the 3rd week even if they are doing well. Geno may be running for his life early.

Boyd could be the next Tom Brady. At this point there's no reason to think otherwise.

Yeah, maybe one day. Boyd will probably be this year's preseason hero. They kind of get worshipped around here because they look good against 3rd and 4th string D.

Mehta needs to apply for the head coaching job or shut the fuck up. Is Rex telling him how to write his bullshit articles?

I said Jets fans, not Jets fans on this website. And they are obviously exaggerated, but folks have made similar arguments about those respective players to the point of getting really upset when they were cut or not used in the season.

NSN, I could see myself saying that Holmes quote, but I've never defended Wayne Hunter or Gholston. I was talking about how people worship preseason 3rd string heroes that light up the Eagle in game 4. I don't think Gholston ever even registered a pre season sack, although I could be mistaken.

You are a poor example of a fan. You basically hate the entire fanbase and support every single tiny thing the team does. You don't root for the team, you masturbate to it. You're a stalker.

I don't hate the entire fanbase, only the dark siders that assume doom and gloom behind every decision ever made and use pathetic reasoning to slander (libel lol)players on the team that are developing or proclaim Woody the evil shadow government or Rex an idiot who is loyal to vets only regardless of play on the field when that argument is easily debunked. Crap like that. I know a lot of cool Jets fans, but there seems to be a much higher level of pessimists associated with this fanbase than most others. I'm a realist but I stay optimistic, and people HATE that. They think I should bash players or I'm a bad fan. Fans are supposed to be loyal and optimistic. And I HAVE bashed players. I don't blindly support everything the team ever does. I wanted them to sign a corner this off season. I hated Wayne Hunter. I hated the Tebow move. I hated the Leon Washington trade. I hated that they shafted Edwards after 2010. I hated Tannebaum's back loaded contracts. I didn't like the Revis trade at the time. The list goes on, I just don't constantly bitch about those things. They are in the past.
