So who should be the Jets QB in 2014. If they had confidence in Eugene why did they sign Vick to a $5 million 1 year contract? To mentor him? Is it because they clearly see Eugene is way to raw or do they realize they made a huge mistake drafting him in the first place. Eugene should have never even sniffed the field last year. And his play clearly showed he was not ready or even if he ever will be. There is nothing redeeming about Smith's 'rookie' season. Having won a few games down the stretch against clearly inferior teams has totally being exaggerated. Do you really want a guy who comes up with a lame ass rallying cry like "why not us? Bottom line is Smith is a lousy QB who was a high draft pick and the Jets are trying not to lose face seeing how they embarrassed themselves for years by sticking with Sanchez too long.

Vick is a special athlete. Even at 34 he is better conditioned and doesn't have the wear and tear a regular 34 year QB in the NFL has. He sat out two years while serving time and has been injured here and there. So he has not played a ritual '14' years since coming out of college at age 21. After adding it all up, he's played about 9 'full' seasons which would put him at 30-31 chronologically (football age). If Vick does take over the starting QB spot, he can play for numerous years at a high level. Yes Vick comes with monumental garbage. But he has paid his dues, is seasoned and is poised to make his mark in the NFL in a different way. With Rex's defense gaining steam again, the Jets need a veteran presence to lead them on offense." Clearly Vick is the better athlete, the better leader, the more experienced, the better choice to lead this team in 2014. Whats bothersome is Smith will get the nod despite not earning it or deserving it. As the Jets continue to flounder through the season, its my contention, as they go 1--0, 1-1, 1-2, 1-3 , 1-4, that they will just stay the course with Smith since they already know the season would be lost at that point. Their thinking will be we might as well give him some 'much needed experience'. Welcome to the reincarnation of the Mark Sanchez era.

Uhhhh, by your logic there they spent $5m on Vick mentor a QB they don't believe in for 1 season to save face.

I like how MM is giving 75% of the training camp snaps to a scrub QB who won't be on the team much longer.

I would try searching the board for the Vick threads. First, you would see all of this has been discussed. Second, you would see your arguments for Vick are pretty bad compared to other posters who would rather Vick start. Win/Win for you. You can read the old posts about this and you can learn some of the better arguments for and against both Geno and Vick.

They do believe in Geno but not enough to hand him the starting job. So they signed a vet QB in Vick who doesn't need as much rep time as Geno. Vick knows the system and its terminologies. So therefore Geno will get as much reps in TC as he can handle, and Vick will mentor him. If Geno flounders again we now have a capable backup that can step in and salvage the season.

This reads like one of those pro-Vick articles from when the Eagles first signed him.

Back then there was atleast a thought that he could still play. After watching him struggle in Philly last season it's clear to me that he can't anymore. And because of that reason Geno will get every chance to succeed. Simple as that.

Vick didn't "struggle" last year. Vick's biggest issue these past few years have been injuries.

Even had to drag Sanchez into it.

    For shame.

Well whatever it is it's clear he can't be the QB that he once was.

Supposedly he was a good mentor to Foles last season so hoping he can be te same for Geno if he runs with the starting job.

But I think there's a better shot of Vick not being on the roster come Week 1 then there is of him starting Week 1.

theres zero shot of Vick not being on the roster, he's been brought in to potentially spell Smith in the event of his failure, they aren't gonna rely on Boyd and Simms to do that, thats the point.

injuries are a reasonable concern, but he can still play. he can still sling it deep and run, he's not so done he can't be expected to do that like Garrard turned out to be.
